I don't think hey meant he is Bee's Brother but "brother in arms" just means he's a fellow combatant or soldier to Bee. He's probably very close to be as in a good friend but younger sohe more or less will be the young brash one that Bee now has to keep in line like OP had to do with Bee. Seeing as how Bee is growing and becoming more of a Commander with each movie, they need to bring in a new young "Bee-like" Bot.

 

Not entirely. It was partially based on a real life car of that type of design in the 80's so in a way it did exist but the G1 design made it a little more fancy.

And OMFG don't even GET ME STARTED on how ******ed Rodimus Prime's alt. mode was, lol.

Hi face looks like he should be an Autobot Protoform. Or they copied Bumblebee's face.

 

Initially I thought his face seemed a lot like bumblebees but the only thing they really have in common is their big eyes. The more you look at it you actually start to see its different. For example Hot Rod actually seems to have a mouth

 

Then you'll be pleased to know I just realized two things that make him look far more like his G1 self:

1. The car has a flame deco as there is red shapes on an orange background easily seen on the shins

2. The silver lines appear to be framed around air intakes that would be placed in front of the rear wheel wells...same place where G1 Roddy's giant exhaust pipes are angled up and around the rear wheels.

So, in effect, it's a black painted supercar with a deco meant to heavily invoke the original. All it is missing is actual giant pipes and a spoiler. And sure, the main base color is now black but probably just to make those G1 invocative flame and silver details pop. So, for once in the past five years, they've actually done a middle-ground reinvention-yet-faithful incarnation of the character appearance for the movies.

Robot mode is very similar, though. Same arm guards, similar 'insect' door wings, obvious hood chest,and similar presentation of a 'belt buckle' type thing. Think they're taking the 'Bumblebee's brother' aspect quite literally...except once again not doing Cliffjumper for a BB duplicate that has red on it.

 

Any way for someone to post a high res pic of it if there is one on flicker or something? I can make out the slight color change on the red on the legs that might look like flames but I'm not so sure it is. It's hard to tell.

None of which bothers me ONE bit! I'm more opposed to the general concept of a souped-up RV/campervan than anything else. It's just SO absurd, even in the context of THIS franchise, lol.

No, but you did say that Hot Rod isn't Lambo. So, in previous iterations, what was he? As far as I know, the same thing except in Alternators.

It is when again, Hot Rod has only had one alt mode (besides again, Alternators).

 

Roddy never resembled a Lambo to me. For once, I would like to see a Lambo based on a character who is actually known to have that alt mode. I know we had Swipe, but for me, he was the wrong alt mode. Crosshairs uses the Corvette mode beautifully. Hell, I wouldnt have minded Tracks either. Characters like Swipe, Sunny, Red Alert and even Jazz own their iconic alt modes.
I dont mind characters like Bee, having different alt modes. For Bee, it made him more badass.
I would just like to see a few other popular characters using modern day versions of their iconic alt modes.

 

And the DOTM Wreckers were not absurd despite looking like NASCAR had a crossover with Mad Max, sure...

But still, the concept may be a little silly - given it's a toyline y'know - but a super fast truck and trailer made from cars no longer is impossible...


I mean, DOTM Megatron was basically a crappy version of this beast, a more streamlined and 'cleaned up' version for Rodimus would really be something to behold.

 

So I guess they finally got licencing for the name Hot Rod. Nice. Doesn't bode well for Optimus though.

Im all for modern day versions of alt modes.

 

Wonderful. I love it. Especially that it confirms our suspicion of Autobots arriving to earth again. Fingers crossed for a certain othwr Autobot commander.

I just hope you understand where I'm coming from though when people say "X character isn't X alt mode!" It's not just you, and I apologize for taking it out on you as if it were.
