Where?

 

Unless Hot Rod is actually important to the story it really seems like that should have been Cliffjumper.
But it's still cool that we're getting Hot Rod and since we haven't really seen a vehicle that could be him maybe the theory's of Optimus bringing back new autobots could turn out to be true and we could most likely see him and possibly other bots towards the end of the film.

 

That is a horrific robot mode for Hot Rod. A character like him should've got the Optimus-Shockwave-Lockdown treatment for his movieverse design.

 

Cool. I like that there's car kibble, although the overall design does seem generic.

Yes, because Lockdown totally looked like his Animated design. He also totally had any distinct features, besides his odd looking face.

 

What do you mean, "where"? Look for the tires. That's where the clearly visible wheels are.

 

Lockdown's design wasn't as faithful as Prime or Shockwave but he still had the main stuff you'd want Lockdown to have. He had the skull-type head design, he had the spikes on his shoulders and he had the hook. Given typical Bayverse designs it was a good translation from the animated version.

This Hot Rod design looks like sh#t. I know he's not the first G1 character to have a radical design change but I feel like could've tried to put a little of the old design in there. Even radical design changes like Starscream and Hound had some of the old design in there.

 

Really? I honestly wouldn't say either had skull faces, and I wouldn't say they looked that similar. And Hound was just green and turned into a (completely different) military transport. Heck, he was clearly meant to be Bulkhead, yet they called him Hound. As for Starscream, he turned into a jet, had a (barely noticeable) cockpit on his chest and kinda had wings in robot mode. However he was grey, and looked like a bird.

If those designs count as being faithful to the originals, then I'd say this is a faithful Hot Rod. He's a carbot with his car hood on his chest and big shoulders.

 

If they actually went with that color scheme, everyone will start saying the new Transformer is built by Stark Industries.

And why does Hot Rod have a similar color scheme to Drift's?

Looks like they remodeled Lockdown for him. They have the identical belly, crotch and arm parts. Plus they same posture.

 

What if, That is Lockdown. Just a small theory anyway. I may do more research later for that.

wow they literally could have named that autobot anything. he looks totally generic to be honest.

 

I like the design and I am glad that hot rod is making an appearence in the franchise. I am hoping he will be a character that doesn't get killed off and has a voice and not a radio gimmick.

Also on a slightly lighter note his belly middle bit looks like a laughing gnome as the picture attached shows

 

He will probably become Rodimus Prime.
