Normally when you're put on hold for a phone call for one reason or another, you're served with the standard Muzak. However, I want to dedicate this thread to showcasing the examples of hold music that are just off, or lines that have a lack thereof altogether. Please follow my lead in presenting examples in the event you are to do so in an effort to maintain coherence. That said... Hasbro- Oh, hey, one of the support beams that holds this place together! Goody... At one time or another I called Hasbro's customer service line. Keep in mind that while Hasbro has 3 different properties (MLP, Transformers and Jem and The Holograms) that offer up a vast variety of wonderful tunes that keep in line with the company (in that it would be reasonable to have Hasbro songs on the Hasbro hotline), Hasbro's hold music...there is none. Essentially, it's the sound of a Trane AC system droning about. Talk about a letdown. Toys 'R' Us- Seeing a toy-related pattern, folks? Now, I'd like to assume that there are 2 different markets that often call TRU stores: collectors of one thing or another and parents. So, naturally, it makes sense that the music they run would be...3-yr. old bubblegum pop? Yes, at least at my store, they play that. I get that the store's for kids, but I'd like to hear something a bit more refined in favor of having to put Staind on to fruitlessly drown out Big Time Rush. Are there any other examples? Let me know below!
When I worked at Travelocity I had to call one of the airlines one time. I was put on hold and they were playing "Enter Sandman" by Metallica. Like, the actual Metallic version, not some muzak version of it.
The conference call service my company uses has the absolute worst "hold" music while you're waiting for a call to start. It's a single loop about the length of a ringtone and it gets real annoying, real fast. It's like they're trying to incentivize calling in late or something.
So, update on this zombie thread: Nintendo of America- So, N.O.A. did something interesting: their hold music is from Ocarina of Time! The moment I heard that music, I got so excited, and when I got to talk to a support rep, this exchange occurred about 3 minutes in: Me: By the way, can I say what a relief it is for your hold music to not be dead air or Muzak? Rep: Did you like the Zelda music? Me: *giggles and gets the nerdy blushies* Yes... That about sums it up.
