Which school is the biggest rival of the high school that you went to/are going to? My high school's rival is the Harrison Huskies.
Where I went to High School, noone who wasnt directly related to the football team gave a damn about football. Similarly, where I went to University, noone who wasnt directly related to the football team gave a damn about football.
Same. I think it may be more of an American phenomenon. I was never entirely certain if my university even had a football team.
Not so much phenomenon as most popular sport in the whole damn country. Let me take some liberties to the OP's original post and broaden it up for you Canucks, how about hockey? And for you Euro types who'll inevitably be visiting us, just use your own definition of football instead!
It was our team versus their team, in a fight to the finish, which was usually whenever the game ended. Also, sports.
Los Altos Conquestadors God I hate that school. It's a more preppy school so lots of kids who go there come from rich families, so the school has more money for booster clubs, which leads to better teams on the field. Their football team usually beat our team and that irks me to no end. I always have a goal that if I ever became a millionaire one of the first things I'd do is joining my HS booster club and pump some funds into the football program.
Phenomenon as in 'observable occurrence', not necessarily as in something extraordinary or surprising (although the case could be made that its popularity fits into both definitions). I am certain we had hockey teams, but I don't know anyone who ever went to any games, and I certainly couldn't tell you who our 'rivals' were supposed to be.
On a serious note, We were the Jess Lanier Purple Tigers, and our chief rival was Robert E Lee in Montgomery as well as the Hueytown High Golden Gophers. And, super super seriously, how 'bout no more high school football threads.
I went to Woodham High School in Pensacola, FL. For years the rivalry was between Woodham Titans and Tate Aggies. But all that ended last year when the County School Board closed Woodham High. Woodham is now a middle school.
