Anyone? For the DS, only $20. Never heard of it until a few weeks ago. Was noticing it had 9 or 10's in most of the reviews (10's on gamestop's website) Supposedly all 3 are good, but the 3rd is an improvent on the first two. Been hooked on the damn thing. Never played an rpg like it before. Everything but the dungeon (1st person view ) and sea exploration is in menus. There's only one town which acts as the main hub for the entire game. The dungeons play like the old Dragon Warrior & the pencil/paper Dungeon & Dragons games. On the top screen you'll explore in 1st person view, but on the bottom screen you'll use the stylus to draw your maps as you go. They're not randomly generated dungeons either, so you can check out map stategies online if needed. For someone who has over 100 rpg's under his belt, this is like a breath of fresh air.
The Etrian Odyssey games are retail carts. I've tried to get into these classic "Wizardry" style RPGs a few times but I think I'm just not hardcore enough for them, anymore . Still, from what I've seen of them, they're really well made and if extreme dungeon crawling, mapping, and generally old-school RPGing is your thing, these games are perfect. Another one to check out is "The Dark Spire", also by Atlus and using the same engine as the EO games (I think). It's got a fantastic visual style to go with its crushing difficulty and dungeon delving replayability.
I have the first two EO games. Never found the 3rd in stores. I really wanted the Dark Spire too but it vanished before I could buy it. Anyway, they are really long, fun, addictive games. Just awesome to play if you love dungeon crawling and character customization.
