OK, this is by far going to be one of the most in-depth customs I've made since... uh, probably Mitchell from Hunt Down the Freeman?
Let's just jump into this real quick - The head was the first thing I started with. IMG_20210822_151246692.jpg
It's a leftover Studio Series Jazz head that I had from Nightbeat. I flattened the visor to make it look less like a triangle, sanded it so it looked rounder, and filled in a WHOLE bunch of gaps with epoxy putty.
    IMG_20210822_151306958.jpg
I also puttied the inside of the ball joint socket, so I could do some GENIUS ENGINEERING!!
    IMG_20210822_194836_HDR.png
After painting (yes, I know that I mis-painted the head crest as candy red, I replaced it with candy yellow afterwards), I drilled a 3 millimetre hole into his neck, added a piece of sprue from one of my many Gundam kits and (here's the GENIUS part)...
Drilled a 3 millimetre hole into a 6mm ball from Hobby Base's Double Ball Joint set, then stuck it onto the sprue!
So after punching the pins on the Siege Red Alert (deceptively simple - just make sure to push them out from the BOTTOM and not the top), Hurricane's head swap is complete, and I didn't have to destroy Red Alert's head!
    IMG_20210830_111848820.jpg
"But Mr. Master II, why is this in the Heavy/Scratch section? This is just shaping up to be a repaint!"
Aaah. It may look like a repaint so far, but his custom is more than meets the eye.
I'm waiting on two Porsche 917K slot car bodies, and I'm gonna use them to RE-SHELL HURRICANE.
    Wish me luck, lads.

Hey, if my caffeinated-ass hands can do it, then I'm sure with enough practice and patience you could make something great.

I have the handwriting of a 9 year old. I'm also broke, which means I have nothing to paint on. The most I'm willing to paint that I own without having a panic attack when I get it wrong are my micromasters and one prime master.

siiiiiick. You chose an excellent car, the 917 is incredibly sexy. Are you going to stick close to the original design or are you going to throw on a race livery and crazy fenders like I just did? either way I'm looking forward to how it turns out!

I'm just gonna do the zig-zag that Hurricane originally had, nothing too outrageous. :p

Been painting his non-vehicle-mode-essential parts to get him a little closer to the final colouration. Y'know. Not got much else to do while I wait for the slot cars.

Oh yeah, I gave Scorch his decal finally too!

    Update: I pivoted.
    IMG_20210908_170956343.jpg
I'm now scratchbuilding the hood because of shit beyond my control (EG the PETG of the slot car bodies being IMPOSSIBLE TO GLUE).

If I ever reshell something else, I'm just gonna use a model kit.

Maybe put screws through the body on places you can't see them - like the windshield for example - and then use the screws or whatever you put on their other end to glue it on.

Doesn't really help with how thin the slot car bodies were, sadly.

And if you put a bit of styrene or something else on the in- and outside of the body where the screw goes through?

Then I have a feeling it'd all be visible.

And if you put it under the canopy or something else?

Well it'd still show because I wanted the canopy to be clear. Though with my pivoting, it's... not gonna be that.

Just paint it white or silver or metallic white from the inside. That way it's clear but not see-through/transparent at the same time.

This suggestion is of course implying that you paint the windows clear pink from the outside. Otherwise just paint them pink from the inside. That also is the best way to protect the paintjob.
