UPDATES POSTED THROUGHOUT THREAD last pic update: 3/22/12 post #188 i was clogging up the Herc megathread with my not-Constructicon mods and paint aps...so i decided to just make my own thread if anyone is interested in the minor improvements (IMO) that i make...mostly, i hate the over abundance of purple in little splotches all over these bots that show up in Hercules mode...so i'm going to attempt to hide as much as possible aside from the sheild and hands... i have thick skin, so any and all comments/critiques are welcome... first thing i ever did was give Exgraver a wash to highlight all the great details TFC gave him... before... after... then i did switched the treads around to give him more range of motion in the elbow... cut the peg off of Ex's cab... gave HL a wash, painted his forearms green, detailed the lights, removed his purple bumper and painted his lower legs grey (stupid a$$ purple thighs on Hercules, C'MON!) at this time i also got rid of some of the purple detail on Exgraver...the purple piece on his back got painted green along with the bicepts that WERE purple in arm and alt modes...you can probably also see the added thumb articulation i added to Ex about ten minutes out of the box... here i've done some additional paint detail to HL (i've also done the same edge highlighting to Ex, just didnt take pictures of him yet)...i also painted the bumper green that shows up in Hercules/alt mode...but i left the back side purple for HL mode...
Great work man. That green you used matches perfectly and the washes and edgelighting really make these guys stand out from the stock models. VERY curious as to which brand and exact colour you used for the green colour? I plan to do this as well. I also like what you did with HL's lower legs in making them grey, as I agree that they should be grey or gunmetal for Devy's thighs -don't really know what they were thinking when they made them purple. Congratulations on some fantastic mods and paint applications there!
I like what you did for the detailing, but the silver/grey thighs is a bit too drastic IMO. I like how you gave them a bit of a grungy/workhorse look without making it glaringly obvious. Did you use lots of thinner and brush and wipe, or just wipe?
thanks a bunch guys!...its a labor of love with these Herc bots (no pun intended ) the green isn't a straight up match... for the base coat, i used Tamiya TS-22...its a VERY durable spray lacquer...it's light green and VERY close to TFCs green, but a bit darker, so again, i use it for a base...then i picked up the same green in the little jar, X-15, and mixed in a little yellow and a little white...silver would be good to mix in too if you want to match the slight sheen TFCs green seems to have... as for the wash on them, it was the basic 90% alcohol and black wash...then i rubbed off the excess after it dried...
Nice job! I'm pretty much going to do washes and variable paintwork on my own when I get them all together. Yours look loads better then stock!
thanks guys!...i appreciate the feedback...check back occationally as i plan to a lot more mods and paint work on all of them... right now i'm working on covers for Exgravers hands in alt and arm mode... and i'm gonna try adding stairs to the front of Heavy Labor like the real dump trucks have, and see how it looks...
thanks 0MEGA! i added the ladder/stairs/railings to HL...pretty happy with how it turned out...way more time consuming than i would've ever imangined...
That looks hot! I have one complaint, though: his tires are awfully clean. They stand out from the incredible weathering you did. Throw some "mud" on those babies, pronto!
that is really kool indeed. the stairs almost look like some kind of ruggid sash. awesome paint details too!
