These are clearly better than the Hasbro versions. I'm really digging the painted face on Starscream and the autobot logo on Grimlock's chest.
Have to say Prime is about the same, Megatron looks better, Screamer looks better simply because of the face, Mirage looks a little cooler, Bumblebee looks worse, and Grimlock looks... more odd. His lighter gray plastic seems out of place. Either way, the differences, better or worse, aren't really worth the additional cost, IMO.
I like some of the differences on these and I really hate some of the differences. Yeah some of the figures look good with the chromed parts but it makes other look worse. The Chrome on Grimlock seems pointless...

Still waiting to see these in person to make a final call. I kind of agree with Ktulu's "KO" comment, especially in regards to Bumblebee. The Hasbro version of Bumblebee, with light grey and white thrown into the mix, looks far better IMO. But also like Ktulu said, it might be partly due to the camera. I LOVE Starscream's painted face.... love that it is actually a DARK silver, versus just silver. And the painted chest intakes look great. But that center section of his chest (above the cockpit) really looks like it could have used some paint, as could the jet nosecone. And I don't care for the white detailing on the shoulders and hips. He's a mixed bag. Love Grimlock's sub-crystal Autobot symbol. I wish it had been his tiny dino-arms (vestigial forelimbs!) that had been chromed, but the chrome trunk doesn't bother me like it does some people. I dunno.... overall they're all fine in a "same but different" way. Most seem to gain a little and lose a little from their Hasbro predecessors. I don't regret ordering them, as I am sure they will grow on me in person. I'm really curious to see if this line has a "Wave 3".... and who might be in it! Oh, and if anyone in Japan buys these at Toys R Us and gets the little red Skyglide minicon.... and doesn't want it.... let me know if you're interested in selling it. Seriously.
The only one of these that are really better then the US version is Megatron(and even then his scope is worse looking with that added on red), IMO the others actually look worse. specially Screamer, the blue tail fins are nice but other then that he looks like a KO, same for Grimlock Prime BB and Mirage. Only Megatron and Astrotrain get any good out of Takara's releases.
Clearly a matter of personal taste actually, you liking them doesn't make them better, me not liking them doesn't make them worse.
hmmm...i'm liking some...and i'm not liking some....will pic up astrotrain for sure...and maybe starscream, grimmy and prime
I think the chrome looks pretty good with the exception of Starscream and Bumblebee. I don't like the Grimlock figure to begin with, but at least it looks interesting now.
