    Im trying to digibash smokescreens helmet yellow with colour replacement but it is coming out like

    Try changing saturation, brightness and contrast as well. Additionally tone level correction often is useful.

    You could go the more basic user route and zoom right in, then use the polygonal lasso tool to carefully cut around the area you want to color. Right click and make it into it's own layer on top of the original. Then go into Image/Adjustments/desaturate -- this takes the blue away. Then go back into Image/Adjustments/color balance to tweek the color.
