Its not the strength of the hip, is the shape of the socket that allows the ball of the hip to slip out.

I think you should take her in and have it looked at. It could be she slipped and went down hard, and just needs some puppy aspirin. Or it could be worse. Stop worrying here and take her in if you've got the funds.

Sounds like she might be starting to get arthritis. Take her to the vet and get a proper diagnosis. There are medications that can preserve the cartilage and increase her quality of life. Dogs are very stoic and often pain and suffering go unnoticed.

It could also be something else entirely. It's better to take them and have nothing wrong, then not taking them and have them suffer.

Vet recommended glucosamine for her. He said If it doesn't look bad he doesn't suggest an xray he said most likely even the way she walked in room that they won't see anything. He told me to try the pills and monitor her

Do I have to get the expensive brand or one of these will be fine

you don't necessarily need to get the pricey stuff, but going cheep you run the risk of buying meds that don't really have the recommended amount of the active substance needed.

I give my dog Cosequin. It's the only brand I'm familiar with and can say is effective.

There are a lot of brands of it - you can go to a co-op or specialty supplement store like Vitamin World and get good advice on which brands are quality brands. You can even buy it at feed stores. As long as you know the mg dosage, you don't have to get specific veterinary-branded pills. Also, it would have been better to just buy a 30 or 60 day supply to try it out instead - if it doesn't work now you're stuck with a lot of useless pills.

Yup, that's the brand. Sorry - at work we just call it "Cosequin" but it's the Nutramax brand.

On a senior dog, my childhood GSD is 15 and her legs has always been wobbly past 5 years. My dad told me today one of her legs don't work anymore. Would giving her the cosequin help or is it slowly getting to that time :( . Makes my heart sink when I visit my parents house and see her older everytime

Just feel bad when I see her when visiting my parents. When they have arthritis like that is it the legs that can't move or is it pain that makes them not move it

It can be a combination of both. The other thing to watch out for are any lesions on the skin from staying immobile for long periods of time.

Would love to take my pets to the vet more often but every time I do I feel robbed.
Costs about twice as much as going to my own doctor.

And why is there a Porsche parked outide?

Like everything else, costs go up. I actually did inventory for 2 vets I've worked for. Prices have to go up because sellers prices increase, never mind the fiasco that human medical insurance has become. But this is part of having a pet.
