Hi there I wanted to get advice from community. I want a new nice Megatron collectible and can’t decide between Planet X Pluto or the new Furai IDW Megatron model Kit. Was wondering if there’s a consensus on which one is a more reliable purchase? Thx

Planet X Pluto WFC Megatron or Furai IDW Megatron?... apples and oranges... or rather apples and rocks... they are nothing alike... One is a completed toy that transforms and can be handled. The other is a model kit that does not transform, needs to be assembled and painted and once assembled must be handled with kid gloves. Not to mention two very different aesthetics/continuities and one costing twice the price of the other.

What are your criteria for what you want?

I know theyre two different things Im just wondering which is more likely to last considering I have found ways to get both for a reasonable but still pricey price. I'm looking for a nice piece to look at and pose

They are both good items, but the hips on planet x can get lose over time, while the model kit on a whole is very fragile. If you just want to put either on the shelf, and never really touch it, i think the model kit looks nicer, but thats because it doesnt have to transform.

Planet X Megs feels very lightweight and fragile in hand, IMHO. Certainly not worth the price it was going for.

Forget both and go get one of the MP megatron varieties.

If it's an option that's what I'd say too. There are a lot of MP Megatrons out there that was solid and affordable at this point, assuming you don't mind a KO or 3rd party one. Could always go official too if it works for you.

I'll concur with others that have suggested Door #3. I'd open my options a bit more than just these two items. Your criteria, "Megatron Collectible", is pretty wide open, but my personal opinion is that if you're looking for a dollar for dollar value, you can't really go wrong with a KO MP36 OR possibly Maketoys Despotron, depending on the relative prices.

Evaluating each thing on its specific merits, I'd say that PX is not that great a Transformer toy. His plastic is really cheap feeling, his transformation is boring and uninspired, and his shelf presence is just OK. At his price point, there are no less than a half dozen other Megatrons you could get that are better. Given you can buy the Furai model at a fraction of the cost, I'd get the model if those were my two choices.

MMC Tyrantron is kind of like a fusion of those two designs, but made waaaay better. I'd give him a try.

$68 for PX Pluto on BBTS. From a post I saw on the Pluto thread, it comes with the parts to fix the loose hip issues.

I'd go with the Furai personally.

If you're looking for a great Megatron I'd get Maketoys Rioter Despotron. That thing just makes me smile.

You can get the THF KO MP Megatron for around 60$. Its head and shoulders above the PX or model kit, both literally and figuratively. Fun figure tons of accessories, unless your married to the IDW or FOC aesthetic this is a no contest.

Ok. They both look fantastic, but I am still confused about what you expect from community advice. You seem to already be aware of potential flaws of both. If it is only a matter of "which is more likely to last", that all depends on your expectations of what you plan to do with it. Again, one is a toy designed to be handled, at least a small amount, and one is a model kit that really shouldn't be handled after it's built.

If you are just looking for a top notch Megatron, my advice is to go with the classic design and get MP-36, or one of the KO's if price is an issue. There is also XTB, DX9 and MT. If you want something smaller there are a bunch of 3rd party legends scale. That is, if you don't already have any of these suggestions. You don't mention if you have an existing collection or if this is just a one time thing for you.

If you are looking specifically for a Fall of Cybertron game Megatron, PlanetX is all there is. Hasbro did a pretty good deluxe scale War for Cybertron Megatron a decade ago. If you are looking for a IDW Autobot Megatron, there is of course the Furai model kit but there is also a figure from MMC. Maybe a few others that escape my memory.

Again, it is about what you want. No one here should be telling you what to do but we can't really share good advise unless you share your motivations. Do you want a toy and immediate gratification or a model kit for a project? Are you looking for these specific versions of Megatron or are you opened minded to other versions? Are specific versions of the character meaningful to you or is it just a character name and the continuity is interchangeable? Are you expecting to handle the figure a lot or is it purely for display? How much budget do you have for this? $20, $200, $400?

It's difficult to help without knowing more :)
