Hey all. My six year old really wants to see this. For context, he's seen Avengers, Winter Soldier, and the first Transformers by Bay. He's seen also all of the Star Wars and Clone Wars stuff. Can he handle this movie?

Added info: I did not show him TF3 as I was worried that was too much given the wreckers playing at being cannibals, Que getting head shot execution style, etc.

    Nope.

    Optimus screams "I'll kill you."

Ratchet and Leadfoot are brutally murdered by humans,
And Lockdown's Death is.... Well he is ripped in half from the chest up.

Plus the movie tends to have a darker tone with the music making it very creepy at times.

If I had a child I would not take them to see this, And I tend to be a lenient man.

If I had kids, I would not have taken them. Parental guide on IMDB is a good source for this kind of info.

There is also a pretty brutal human death, too.
One of the humans, Lucas, is hit by one of Lockdown's bombs. And it leaves behind his charred corpse which is on screen for a decent amount of time.

^ this seems like good advice.

i can't tell you what is or is not appropriate for your child but if you thought DOTM was not I don't see why this movie would be different.

Nope, their is swearing, sexual references, violence, cannibalism (Transformers eating Transformers) and human deaths.

The movies are a 12A for a reason - if they are not over 12 then don't take them to see the movie. Simple as that. You shouldn't have let him watch the previous movies either because these are all films that he shouldn't be watching at a young age. I know its probably not my place, but I've always worried the effect that these movies will have on children.

Normally its advisable for a parent to watch the movie beforehand to make sure it is suitable - however you've kind of made it clear here that you have no idea what is suitable for your kid to watch - allowing him to see murder, death and violence in Star Wars for example yet not allowing him to see DOTM due to robot violence. You shouldn't have really shown your kid those films - especially if you go kind of over-protective about the cannibalism and death of Que in DOTM (Not to mention the swearing and hundreds of humans vaporized or burned to death)

Superhero films should be more acceptable as those teach strong morals and are generally more acceptable movies - but you should not be taking a 6 year old to see a movie that is 12A - especially when you haven't seen the movie prior yourself to judge about whether its appropriate.

    My advice;
Watch a movie first - if you view it as acceptable show it to your kid in the comfort of your own home... in this case it might be best getting the opinions of someone else also because you seem unsure of what is right or wrong to show a young kid. Talk with your child afterwards to make sure that they are not picking up any wrong messages from the movies which may warp their view on the world.

Oh and given that AOE is 2hr 45m in length I wouldn't suggest taking him the cinema anyway as he will likely not sit around quietly watching the movie for such a long period of time.

Lucas's death, Tucci saying "How do you say get the fuck out of the way in chinese" and Hound said Bitch a couple times.
Those are really the only things a 6 year old probably shouldn't be seeing/hearing, or at least things that aren't super common in pg13 movies.

Yes. Generally I watch first, read a full spoiler and then take him. I keep the spoiler open on the phone so we can go for popcorn when things might be too intense.

Given this was three hours long and I intensely did not want to see it, I was looking for advice here. Had the advice been different, I'd have still taken the usual steps beforehand.

Moot point now. The vote seems fairly unanimous and the reasons are very good. We will wait on this one.

holy crap. screen it for yourself first, then cover your kids eyes and ears at some of the more explicit parts. then when he's older he can watch it in full

You know something is wrong when you can't bring a kid to watch a Transformers movie.

Makes you wonder why the made toys for it...

I saw 3 and 4 year olds at my showing. They drop an f bomb but it happens so fast your kid probably won't hear it. Avengers showed a bunch of aliens dying and their blood going everywhere. If I had a kid I'd take them. My parents took me to PG-13 movies when I was little. I never understood what people said in violent movies I just liked the action. DOTM wasn't bad but One guy says "That's f***ing awesome" but when Tucci's character says it theres music playing and he says it fast. If your son can handle Jazz getting ripped in half and Bee getting his legs blasted off he should be fine, but I obviously don't know you or your son personally. Just use what i said as a suggestion. Honestly, you should see the movie first and judge for yourself. Thats the only surefire way to know.

    It's really fucking violent.

I don't give a shit about 'bad words'. That's totally archaic pathetic to censor words. What are you? Christian?

But it IS EXTREMELY violent on both Cybertronian and Human levels.
