OK Honestly, we are getting some of the best main line action figures that we have ever see from Hasbro/Takara! The new figures have sent me into a new collecting frenzy, and looking forward to 2025, it looks like there more sunshine on the road ahead. That all being said, there are a handful of figures that make me very sad. Some of my favorite and iconic figures have been poorly treated by the Neo-G1 Renaissance and I'm looking for suitable alternatives that would fit in, both in height and scale, along side the other master-class figures. #1 Megatron: The Siege mold was never good and the upcoming commander 86 Megatron will be a welcome and long overdue replacement. I, still however, want a G1 gun Megatron for my "Season 1" collection. and would love to know if anyone knows of a 6" (15cm) figure that would be about modern leader class size? (MP36 is great, but massive!) #2 Tracks: Kingdom Tracks is soo bad, that's it's offensive. They took one of the best original G1 molds and made needlessly complicated and gave it unneeded foe parts. This figure wrecks my day every time I touch it. Transforming him is a chore. I'm always saying, "Why did you move the actual car roof to this giant backpack, then only to replace it with a fake roof for his chest?", "In what Hell were these legs designed?" Honestly, You could have simply duplicated the original G1 design and transformation, added joints and it would have been perfect. This figure got frustratingly overengineered, and is an experience in needless over transformation frivolity. Please tell me there someone makes a decent 5" tracks out there. #3 Beachcomber: Why is this beachcomber Oversized KO big? It's a perfectly serviceable Beachcomber and the parrot is Awesome! He's even got rubber wheels! But why is he 50% larger than he should be? He's bigger than most the deluxe vehicles including trucks and vans! The buggy alt mode is based on a stripped down VW Bug sand rail, Why is he so much bigger than Bumblebee? Does someone make a half size KO Beachcomber? #4 The Seekers: Yes, I have like 12 versions of the seekers. It's another stale Siege mold that needs an real overhaul. All the seekers are missing what is now basic features. No opening hands or articulated waist here. I also find the Siege styling a bit garish. I'd love to see something more inspired by the G1 transformation, with all the modern articulation and styling of the SS86 line. Any 5-6" Ko's out there? Something?
I'm afraid you're out of luck in pretty much every case here. Closest alternatives that are accurate, decent figures, but most likely not the scale you're after, would be MP36 (MP Megatron), MechFansToys Flywheel (Legends+ Tracks), and Newage Jones (Legends Beachcomber). The ER Seeker is as close as you can get to G1 at the moment, afaik.
None of those Seekers are Siege. To be honest, you're doing it wrong. If you want toys that look like the Sunbow cartoon, then official and third-party Masterpiece is the way to go.
Yeah! I was worried that might be the case. I found these guys on ebay, they look amazing, but they are frustratingly smaller than the modern mail line scale. That Beachcomber might be great though! .
I really like the look and scale of the new main line, it's a great balance between the toys and the original show. I'm super please overall. The MP line is great, but that are a bit spendy and a bit large. (and some figures, like Tracks, are NOT any better on the MP side LOL) Some of the main line figures I actually like BETTER than the MP's (Rodimus, hot rob, SS86 Springer, Jetfire/Skyfire, and many others, are just great in the mainline)
That's fair - it's where the 'toon accuracy' is at its highest, though - apart from third-party Legends (specifically Newage and Magic Square), which are, of course, smaller. Legends are great fun, however, and take up a lot less space... Just be a bit careful of 'Legends+', which is mainly OSKOs of third-party Legends figures - they're bigger than Legends (although still smaller than CHUG), but that limits you to a much smaller selection from one or two KO companies.
Have you tried looking at Power of the Primes Legends Beachcomber? It’s not quite as articulated as the new Generations one, but it’s smaller so it may be closer to your taste.
Megatron you've basically got two choices to match your criteria. The 2006 classics megatron or one of the takara repaints for that more g1 look, or toyworld hegemon, which is a bit blocky and probably wouldn't fit in. But for voyagerish gun megatrons, that's pretty much it. Everyone else is either mp sozed or legends sized. Beachcomber, have you looked at the titans returns/potp (i forget which one he came out in) version? He's a neat figure and smaller than the legacy one. Don't know if hes small enough for your needs, but he's scout class, so bigger than the legends 3p ones. Tracks there is always the old reveal the shield tracks. That's who i use but he is a bit on the dumpy side. No faux partd though, that's why he has a bit of a belly. It's his actual car roof. The takara version has a g1 styled flame decal and metallic blue.
The United Tracks is my default CHUG Tracks at the moment. It may not look the best, but it has a nice smooth transformation and the G1 accurate hood flames are a great improvement over the Reveal the Shield version.
I know he has already been mentioned, but as far as Megatron, I'd say best G1-looking gun in a CHUG scale is Toyworld Hegemon/Zetatoys Megatron. He's a little old, but still looks decent IMO. About a head taller than Earthrise Prime, so he might scale OK with SS86. If you don't care about him being 100% G1, there is also Maketoys Rioter Despotron. Stylistically, I'm using him to pair with Reactivate Optimus. And I'll throw in another vote for Titans Return Beachcomber.
OMG!!! that's a winner right there! Picure's worth a thousand words! That looks great, off to ebay I go lol I think you guys are right on w/ the beachcomber as well. I had that Tracks for a long time, I though he was good, but he always felt more Wheeljack than Tracks
Just so there's no confusion, if you want the version pictured, that's the Zeta Toys version, which has a silver paintjob. If you get the Toyworld version (Hegemon), it will be a grey plastic color. And I wish you luck getting whichever you prefer. I personally think he's still a good toy
Unless you’re willing to shill out tons of money and spend way too much time on EBay auctions for rare 3p items, I think your needs are a bit too specific to be met 100%. This isn’t a bad thing by the way, just something to be weary of. Or you could learn how to customize
