    Hi Guys (and girls)...

I have some of the G1 minibots and need help trying to figure out which ones I have/need. I have 2 Huffers, but they are the same date stamp, both rub signs. I have a Bumblee, a Brawn, a Gears, and a Windcharger. I would like to know if these were the original 1984 or are they the 1985 that came with the mini-spies? I also need to know which mini-spy they each came with, so I can go get those as well. Thank you all!

If I recall, the mini-spies were randomly packed, weren't they? Different cars, color variations, and faction sigils (there are 24 or 48 variations according to TFWiki).

According to the wiki, rubsigns started being added to the figures in 1985. So your Minibots with no rubsigns would be from 1984. It also says that the Mini-Spies were the first Transformers to feature rubsigns, and were packaged with the Minibots in early 1985.

What it doesn't explicitly state is whether those first 1985 Minibot assortments had Mini-Spies but no rubsigns on the Minibots.

Chances are if they do not say "Hasbro" on the stamping, and they have dates and Kanji, they are either late 1984 or early 1985. The presence of a rubsign, and no Hasbro stamping points to early 1985.

It's possible to get pre-rub versions with the same stampings as most of what you have shown.

In mainland European countries, certaion versions of Joustra Diaclone "Cheetah" (Brawn), "Trans Am" (Windcharger), "Pick Up" (Gears) and "Truck" (Huffer) would have had Autobot stickers but no rubsigns, and those copyrights too

    All the best

so...are we thinking that the ones that say '85 are the pre-rub ones that came with minispies? and any that say 1984 ARE from the 1984 line without minispies?

As far as my experience goes, none of them are stamped 1985. In the pictures you have attached, apart from the "1984", the rest are "1983" to my eye, and that's what my toys say as well.

Remember it's just a copyright date, not necessarily release date or manufacture date.

    All the best
