I wonder if David Warner as Freddy would have sounded more like a cackling Ra's al Ghul or a more perverted version of The Lobe.
Ok, but this is a teaser for the movie reboot on Hulu not the series that's coming to (maybe) HBO Max. That's why I posted it in the other thread, which is for the movie. EDIT: I now see that the two threads have been combined.
For once, I really don't care about the gender bending here. In the books, I guess Pinhead is relatively androgynous and has an effeminate voice...so this is fine.
We have another Cenobite named “The Mask.” First Look 'Hellraiser' Photos Reveal Jamie Clayton's Pinhead And A New Cenobite
The guy with the clicking teeth was in the trailer, right? Yeah. Pass. Sorry, I bet it will be a great movie but the original movies sttill scare me a lot. T T
Yeah, we have gotten there, they have effin' R63ed Pinhead too. Hellraiser - Official Trailer | IMDb Never the mind that the series already had plenty of female Cenobites, nah, we need a more inclusive Hell, I guess? The stupidity of Hollywood never ceases to amaze me. Or how about creating a new character if you are so hell-bent (I am not apologizing for the pun) to add more female characters? Not that there aren't already a few to choose from. Add to this how now apparently some evil millionaire can trick people into solving the configurations without them knowing what they are doing and the Cenobites will still take them, which was something very much against the rules for old Pinhead - he usually took the guy tricking the person in such cases, like in the third movie. And I guess the cubes are boring, we need more shapes. I wonder if the Cenobites play (kinky) role-playing games with all this dice? Also, in this one it just seems the Cenobites simply show up and torture and kill people to feed on their blood and fear, as if they were just a variation of vampires. When what made them genuinely creepy in the original that they actually LIKED their extreme BDSM, thinking it was the bee's knees, and sought to enlighten those who were bored with all earthly delights, and foolishly tried to summon them. They were evil but they were thinking they are helping humans on the way to unearthly pleasures in their own demented way. One important thing is that people who solve the puzzle know (or at least, they think they know) what they are doing. Turning the puzzles into just traps to kill clueless people is as bad as that stupid and boring as that "seven daaaaays" cursed VHS tape horror movie. I think he is called the Chatterer in the original movies.
Pinhead being androgynous feels right. Trailer looked decent. Hellraiser never really scared me but this seems about as creepy as the original movies.
Supposedly, the books describe Pinhead as being effeminate but mostly androgynous...so it's truer to the books than the movies were on that point.
I guess now we can say Kotobukiya predicted the future? Pinhead BISHOUJO Introduction | KOTOBUKIYA BLOG ... does this mean sexy Jason Vorhees, Freddy Krueger and Chucky are also getting movies made by Hollywood?
Minus the boobs, you could say Kotobukiya almost got it right versus the movies. Considering the Cenobytes are supposed to be extreme BDSM torture porn characters, there's really nothing "wrong" with a sexier Pinhead - beyond the wrongness he already is, at least. Jason's whole raison d'etre is because his mother disapproved of stupid sexy girls having a good time with stupid hunky boys in the campground. So, sexy Jason would miss the whole point of his movies. Filmmakers should know better unless someone does a twist ending where Jason is actually his mother in a reboot. Freddy can be as sexy and ugly as he wants to be, being a dream spirit (as someone said, see Dream Warriors). Chucky is a doll. I suppose his spirit could get trapped in a Barbie doll and have some form of existential crisis that could be used as an allegory. Unfortunately, I could easily see that happening with Hollywood these days.
It goes back to the book a hellbound heart In The Hellbound Heart, Pinhead is described as an androgynous being with a feminine voice like an excited young girl. Additionally, Barker's novel The Scarlet Gospels indicates there is debate on whether there has always been one Hell Priest existing for many millennia, or if the title and nature of the Hell Priest has been adopted by many different humans-turned-Cenobite across the centuries. However Barker wrote the story as well as directed the original Hellraiser movie, so both Pinheads could be considered valid versions. There are multiple Chuckys now as he can now split his soul and one of them is possessing the body of a woman from time to time. Though her real self occasionally fights her way back to the surface and is usually horrified by what Chucky has done and tries to escape, but it usually doesn't go well.
Saw the new Hellraiser film. Ugh, so bad. The "heroes" are straight out of an 80s teen slasher flick. The plot twists you could see coming from miles away and the entire film is full of jump scares, that are hardly scary. The film commited the cardinal sin of being boring.
