Yeah.
So I was in the midst of muttering obscenities about people who pull this crap when I noticed that Screamer was in there perfectly. Tie downs and all.
“So did they swap figures?” I asked myself.
I examined the box- and it looked perfectly undisturbed. The tape even looked original.

Either someone out there is a magician or we have a real factory screw up.

 

We'll know for sure if someone posts a photo of Optimus Prime in a sealed Starscream box.

This is a swap. You can peel the tape off carefully and not mess up the box, then all you’d have to do is swap the trays out and reseal the tape.


The biggest thing that says this is a swap though is that fact that this is with SS32 Optimus and SS06 Starscream. Two figures released a year apart from each other. From my understanding, once a figure stops shipping it’s production run ends, so the factory were this made shouldn’t have of the original SS06 Starscreams in it.

I've never seen a factory screw up in transformers but star wars it's more common. So seeing as this could be a factory screw up i might have bought it just for the interesting look of it.

 

Don't those type of boxes just unfold on the bottom.

Unless they are taped, or glued, on the bottom you can open the flaps and refold then again without it looking like it was opened.

 

Starscream is all up in Optimus Prime’s business. Shenanigans!!

I've seen this happen several times over the years. Normally it's only the deluxes and it's a swapped insert instead of the wrong box.

 

Repacked!

If it was those blisters from a few years ago, those were a bit more difficult to swap. Not impossible, just more difficult

 

This. Those SS boxes can be opened easily from the bottom and reclosed. The tell tale signs are the scrapes on the bottom flap edges that can occur as you unfold and refold the flaps.

 

Maybe we need a “best repacks in the wild” thread.

 

I absolutely don't think people should do repack jobs like that. However, if this is a repack, it's done very well. Perhaps the bottom was opened outward like some suggest here. - A

Probably just the work of a professional prankster who got both OP and ST, swapped them MISB at home, and returned one of the two. It would take godlike heist skills to pull off such a thing without getting caught, and with toy swapping being a lazy and scummy thing to do at core there’s no way someone’d put that much effort into just saving a few dollars.

And no, that 3-tomato Soundwave DOES NOT COUNT.

 

Ah, I hadn't seen that one, I've seen the Worst repacks one pop up quite often.
