First trip to Japan, and I'm looking for any advice and location for good transformer shops in the Tokyo area. Thanks so much!

Have fun! Unfortunately, I can't help you with neat shops to visit, but I was there a few years ago and wish I had been into Transformers collecting at that point. I wish you the best of luck though and hope someone here will be able to help you!

There was a thread on his not long ago, but it's not turning up after I search... Not much help, but take a look around.

Mandarake in Akihabara, also the shops in Akihabara around "Electric Town".
    Bic Kamera & Yodobashii Kamera
    Toys R Us
    Jusco/Aeon

This is from someone who lived in Japan 9 years.

My advice: Branch out. Look for non-Transformers transforming toys. Except for possibly older figures the Transformers you will find will be similar to the figures locally available to you. Go for some Macross or Soul of Chogokin figures. Research what's been released so you'll have time to make a want list.

    Definitely hit up:

    Yodabashi Camera
    Bic Camera
    Kid's Land
    Joshin
    Jusco
    Toys R Us

The smaller "cubicle" hobby stores sell both used and new figures (be sure to ask if you care about MISB/MOSC quality).

Skip Tokyo and move straight on to Osaka. They have more TF's and a bigger variety!

I'd agree with this. The last time I was there, the pickings in Tokyo were very slim. Go to Den Den Town in Osaka, and you'll be satisfied.
