We had to put one of my pet rats down tonight. She had been really sick for the past week and took a major turn for the worse today. I'm a bit of a wreck right now. 'tis ultimately for the best, though. Still sucks, though.

That sucks, man. I know I'd be a wreck if anything happened to my dogs, so I can imagine how you're feeling...

I've lost many beloved pets....I know the feeling all too well. I'm very sorry that happened, it certainly isn't easy, but at least you'll always have the memories. Cherish them.

    Again, sorry :(

I feel your pain. I lost my youngest ball python last year. We may not have what are seen as conventional pets but thier loss hurts just the same.

Had to put down our eldest (and sweetest) cat two weeks ago due to lymphoma. To add even more sadness is that we had to put down our previous eldest cat just over a year ago for the same thing. Neither were over 10 years old.

I feel for ya man. We had to put down our dog a few months ago. He was a full-blooded Akita. He had Lupus and the medicine for that shut his liver down. And he was only 7 years old too.

Here's a little vid of him from about 3 years ago:

My first dog died on Valentine's day.

It sucks hard, but now I have an excuse not to be seen with a significant other during that day.

Damn, sorry to hear that. I still feel bad over the loss of my rat terrier, Mowgli, last year, one year ago exactly next week on the 31st.

Yeah, the hardest part of owning a pet is when its "time"...I was all torn up when my cats and hamster moved on. Sorry for the sad news.

I'm sorry about Chloe - it's hard to let them go.

I lost one of my rats - Nelson - quite suddenly on tuesday, I keep expecting him to appear at the door of the cage.

    Nelson chilling out-

I've had pets practically my whole life. And them retiring because of old age is one thing, but having to make a decision to put one down is a totally different issue altogether. >_<; Sorry for your loss... I've had to put one pet down some years back too (a ginuea pig with cancer), and recently, my winter-white dwarf hamster (below) went to heaven : (

I like rats, I wish the pet ones lived longer. :(  Chloe was a nice name, too. Are your other rats noticing she's gone?

I've lost 5 of my 6 pets in the last 3 years, and am looking at having to watch the decline of the last - whether it will be slow or fast I don't know.

Ed, sorry to hear about your rat. I know how you feel. Over the years I've buried 2 horses, 2 hamsters, a bird, over a dozen cats, at least five dogs, and it never gets any easier.

I feel for ya. I had to put down a guinea pig years ago, got some kind of tumor in her chest. even thought they're rodents, they still mean a lot to ya. sometimes people don't understand that.

Pets are fun to have, but their short lifespans compared to ours pretty much guarantees eventual heart-break, I've been there many times myself. Sorry for your loss.

Oh dear man, sorry to hear that. Having to put down a loved pet is always hard :(
I do know how you feel.

We had to put down one of our most beloved cats earlier this year. He was well, but all of a sudden his liver failed unexpectedly. He got a few treatments at the vet, everything seemed to go back to normal. Then it went major downhill. Mom brought him one day and told me it was time to say goodbye one final time. The once fat cat was almost only bones now, all in the coures of three days. Once she had left with him I collapsed on the floor and just cried for hours.
God, even thinking of that day makes me cry.
