Just wondering have you've ever purchased a prop from one of your favorite movies? Like has anyone purchase a lightsaber from Star Wars or a shard from an explosion from an action movie or an original script? There is one movie prop that I am interested in but I'm just not sure if movie props are good collectibles.
Around ten years ago, my wife and I bought a prop phaser from Star Trek VI at a convention. The seller swore it was a real prop, not a replica, and was actually held by one of the actors in the movie. I was a bit skeptical, as we paid what seemed like a pittance for it (this many years on, I can't remember what we paid for it exactly, but it seems to me it was in the neighborhood of $150-$300). Regardless of its questionable authenticity, by its weight it's clearly mostly metal, and I personally think it's quite spectacular. We proceeded to ruin its value by getting it autographed by James Doohan and Walter Koenig, who were attending the same con. Today I'm not sure I'd have let my wife do that, but back then I didn't care.
I was going to buy one of the swords seen in the movie Gettysburg, but decided against it in the end. Another cool thing that happened that same day was when I went to this restaurant for some brunch. When I was in my seat, I noticed something on the wall next to me. On the wall was an autograph signed by Liam Neeson; one of my favorite actors. I was amazed to find out that I was sitting in the same place Liam Neeson sat.
I have prop replicas but not real ones. I got about 7 lightsabers and I have an everlasting gobbstopper.
Actual movie/show props? No. But plenty of replicas or versions for retail. Star Wars: -Master Replica FX Lightsabers (x2) Star Trek: -Gold Pressed Latinum (Bar, Brick, Slip, and Strip) [fan made] -Isolinear chips [fan made] -PADDs (before the era of IPads and Tablets) [fan made] -TOS Communicator [retail: roleplay toy] -TNG Phaser [retail: roleplay toy] -TNG Tricorder [retail: roleplay toy]
I don't actually have any props, but one I would've liked would be the Ghostbusters Proton Pack, Neutrona Wand & Ghost Trap.
I've got a Mockingjay pin from The Hunger Games and a Starfleet uniform pin from Stark Trek. I wanted a Browncoat replica from Firelfiy and a replica of Mal's gun for a costume, but they were too expensive. I also want a Guy Fawkes mask from V for Vendetta some time.
I don't own any (and honestly, where would I even put a monolith?) but having recently gone looking for a new hat, I can tell you that you can't swing a milliner without hitting about a dozen Indiana Jones replica hats. All sorts of price ranges. Bit of advice, if you're going to abuse one, the way Indy always did his hat, spring for the fur felt. Wool felt doesn't like getting wet.
If were talking about replicas, I do have a replica of Mal's outfit in Firefly. That's what I was for Halloween last year. I also have a replica of Conan's sword.
I'm a huge Rambo fan. I have all of the knives. I also have the big bowie from The Expendables and the TOPS M4X Punisher from Punisher: War Zone.
I ended up just getting a generic Western looking cap gun and a brown duster coat. It looked fairly accurate, and plenty of people recognized me in it.
Well I wasn't thinking about replicas, I was thinking about the real thing, but yeah we could use replicas. The reason I ask anyone is because I want to get this movie prop on ebay, but I'm not sure if it's worth it.
I would love to be able to buy this set of Penguin items from Batman Returns. BATMAN RETURNS PENGUIN (DANNY DEVITO) HERO 3PC PROP SET | eBay
I picked up a piece of something all black and burnt up from an explosion in Chicago during the filming of Transformers 3. But I threw it away because I had nowhere to put it at the moment and I was going somewhere. Watching the filming was so cool, better than watching the movie itself.
