Have you ever mistaken a Transformers toy for either another Transformer or something else?

While looking at a few figures in my collection today, I picked up Siege Thundercracker who I had mistaken for Ion Storm.

I remember back in 1986 while helping my almost 6 year old brother pick a Transformer for his birthday, I saw G1 Hub Cap and at first glance believed he was Bumblebee until I read the packaging.

One morning back in 2007, while leaving for work I picked up the Real Gears mobile phone instead of my actual mobile. Thankfully I realised it before I drove off.

Anyone else have similar mistaken identity experiences?

Ironic you should say that given your picture of G1 Megatron's gun mode which is banned in the US and Europe for looking too realistic.

I bought some Gig Trasformer Constructions as a kid and dismissed them as KOs.

    Shockwave and Soundwave by name.

I keep thinking that BH Bulkhead is a smaller roadbuster until I pick the guy up.

I also believe many of the battlemasters fit this well, like dazzlestrike and lionizer for example.

    Purple....

    Ditto.

As a kid I thought Gobot Deep Dive was a Transformer. Wasnt until I joined TFW that I eventually learned the shameful truth.

For the longest time younger me thought G2 Hubcap was actually Cliffjumper. Had absolutely no idea since my dad threw away the packaging before I even got a chance to read the bio. Usually I read the bio first but I was just too excited to get a TF for my birthday that I ran to get my G2 BB so I could play with both of them. Came back and dad had cleared everything away. Wouldn't find out who the heck Hubcap was until much later.

Thought I got an AMAZING deal on a Prime First Edition Optimus at a collectibles shop. I didn’t look at it close enough until I got home to realize that I just paid retail price for the regular Voyager figure.
(It was entirely my fault, haha - it was loose and unlabeled)

I never had a G1 Bumblebee growing up but I did have Gobots Bugbite. I knew it wasn't Bumblebee but my brother would always refer to him as such. :lol

G1 Bumblebee and Cliffjumper and their various red and yellow recolors always throw me for a loop.

I had a Rotorstorm growing up and for the longest time assumed he was from some other brand and not a "Transformer".

Also, in my pre-internet days, I saw a Powermaster OP trailer (no cab) at a family friend's house and was confused as all hell. I had never seen anything related to Powermasters prior to that so I was really confused that this trailer that clearly looked like Optimus' turned into most of his body.
