So I'm really getting into the encore G1 transformers. And, in my quest for shiny new G1 bots, I have encountered "KO" or knock-off bots. Two of interest are Wheeljack and Shockwave. Anyone have any experience with these or any other KO's? How's the quality? Any differences? I gather they're unauthorized Chinese releases, is that true?

They are high quality KO's made in china there are a bunch of them including all five dinobots and a growing number of G1 combiners and there is even a rumor of a Fort Max High quality KO. there has been nothing that i know of to substantiate that at this time so treat it as the rumor it is.

I don't own any of them so I'll leave it to others to tell you how good or otherwise the figures are.

 

I have the Wheeljack, and the quality is amazing.

I have the G1 Mirage and his quality is outstanding.

Even the box has very few typos compared to the Wheeljack, like this bit of box fail:

 

I've got Metrotitan & Reflector. They are much above the quality normally associated with 'knockoffs', though probably a small touch below the quality of Takara/Tomy/Hasbro authentic reissues. Like, one of Reflector's gun handles doesn't fit well and I think some factory-applied stickers are missing: like Sunstreaker's black sticker on the roof/chest.

 

Shockwave- pretty good, Reflector- pretty good, Devestator, pretty good, Superion- POS

On the note of combiners, I have heard that they are very good quality. I know someone that purchased the dinobots set, and there is a review on the link about it. They are pretty nifty.

 

I bought the KO G1 Grimlock (only KO I have) out of curiousity and overall think it's pretty decent. One of the dinosaur feet is a little loose when you slide it back to reveal the robot's fist but the paint, chrome, stickers, and general detail are all very solid on mine.

I've got both Wheeljack and Shockwave and I can not tell the difference between the KO's and the originals. If you get the KO's at KOTOYS.com, it is very good stuff. I also have Sunstreaker and Mirage and Mirage is flawless. Sunstreakers nice too.
Worth the money when comparing the cost of MIB original 80's figure.

 

Well Superion is a piece o' shit in the first place.

 

I had the G1 Swoop KO. It was pretty well made. The only problem with it was the arms didn't quite sit right in his alt mode. I got rid of it when I came across a really nice vintage Swoop.

If the prices on the KO's were lower I'd be all over them for the few things I'm missing! I would say if you're looking for some of the higher priced figures these KO are a viable option.

I always wanted a nice minty wheeljack. But just knowing he is a fake phony tf would. Ug the hell out of me so i never picked one up. And i just cant bring myself to spend hundreds on a authentic misb

 

Just bought a Mirage from KOTOYS.com. I'll let you guys know how it goes when it gets here.

 

You should pick up the custom heads for Encore Ironhide and Ratchet. They're constantly on Ebay at very reasonable prices. I have both and they improve the toys so much.

 

Metrotitan KO reissue - did he come in a Metrotitan box or a standard Metroplex box AND where can I get one?
