If the numbers continue to rise the way they have, this thing will be backed in 6 months. Oh wait, it's over in 8 days. Huh.

Hasbro could do that... If they operated like your stereotypical 60ies gangsters.
"Ya only buy stuff from us now, seeey? Or there's gonna be trouble, seeey? I'd hate to have to send the boys over to remind ya who yar main supplier is, seeey?"
I work for an IT company who has tons of clients. This'd be like if one of them threatened to quit unless we stopped also working for a competitor of theirs whom they are accusing of IP theft. Any company would reply to a threat like this with "leave us out of this, settle this between yourselves"

There are subtler ways, Hasbro could simply give less favourable terms to retailers who sell lots of 3p products. Intel used to do something similar against And, granted they were fined by antitrust, but I don't think any 3p would even dare suing Hasbro.

Taking a closer look at the newest pic and looking over the old ones, im really worried about what the articulation of the arms is going to be like.
The shoulders look like they might be really limited, limited in a way that would really have me feeling bad about the whole figure given the price.
    I hope im missing something.

Indeed. However I'm thinking that Hasbro's intent here is to send a message to Zeta and any other companies that attempt to so blatantly disrespect them. I still haven't decided if whoever calls the shots at Zeta has Devastator sized balls or shit for brains. Perhaps it's both.

That's a really good observation & pretty smart/fair concern. The shoulders don't show upward arm articulation to get the hands/arms out to the side. Since you mention it I don't see any hardware to indicate they would move outwards. Surely they would though on something so new & expensive.

Don’t know they extent of it (would love for them to show an articulation video to highlight the 50 joints), but he definitely has some degree of outward arm movement.

Looks like universal joints on shoulders and upward/downward shoulder movement. The latter probably serves the transformation too. Nothing looking like a butterfly joint. Fairly standard.

No, it depends simply on how important you are to the customer. If you are a significant amount of their business, and they can’t afford to lose you, they will likely acquiesce to your demands. If not, they won’t.

It’s all about which party has the leverage over the other.

Oooo! Like be the pic. Pretty awesome :)

I imagine the box will be very large. I can see this shipping in planet mode with the stand in 2 parts. Giant square box with tons of molded foam padding. Kinda like they did with the barge (tons of cool unboxing vids out there).

Articulations are my biggest complaint for the figure. I can let the single jointed knees pass due to the bulk of the leg, but fully articulated fingers and double jointed elbows should have been easy to implement, and at this size you also start to look into wrist articulation. Given the size, an ab crunch to make better kneeling poses would also have been nice. I don't know if how the shoulder works for transformation would allow for butterfly joints, but I would have liked to have them.

Continuing Saturday morning’s theme of articulation, any guesses on what the “more than 50” are? Based on pictures, I think I can get to 39, 42 if counting planet articulation. Maybe they are counting the wings? I could also be missing knee swivel, didn’t see anything conclusive.

    Head (balll)
    Jaw
    Teeth
    Eyes
    Shoulder (up down) x 2
    Shoulder (out in) x 2
    Elbows (bend) x 2
    Elbows (swivel) x 2
    Hands (swivel) x 2
    Thumb (2 joints) x 2
    Index finger (2 joints) x 2
    Other fingers (1 joint) x 6
    Waist (swivel)
    Hip (front back) x 2
    Hip (out in) x 2
    Hip (swivel) x 2
    Knees (bend) x 2
    Ankles (rocker) x 2

I've been saying that since the beginning. If HasTak wants to hurt the "competition", all they need to do is threaten to pull their distributor license from the big e-tailers. Very little legal action needed for a maximum effect.
It would be a boon for overseas sellers, but it would also narrow the target field should HasTak decide to protect what's theirs and bring legal hammers down.
They would be fully within their rights as well.

On the articulation front, I like the outward shoulder joints. They have that large curved piece that goes into the chest that makes a figure look less flimsy, almost like inner workings. Always liked that design feature.

If the head is on two swivels instead of a ball joint and each toe of the feet is articulated we can add up to nine other articulation points. Still need to count the wings and/or the planet mode to go over 50, unless the figure has some articulations we aren't yet aware of.

Unicron is still a limited piece, the price will only go up on the second hand market.
