That could be hilarious. Like the video starts showing a clock in the back at 8:00 A.M. as the video progresses the guy starts dripping sweat as the clock goes to noon, 1 p.m., then its 2:30 and he's drinking a 40 oz in the bag. 5 o'clock rolls around and unicron is barely half transformed with the Youtuber passed out on the floor

Can someone make an extended version of that music in the video? Would be nice to play it in the future while transforming it :D

Oh, the simplified resin prototype, not just the unpainted version of the painted one. You're right!

Wrong. Silver on top/bottom forms front/back of torso. Dark grey forms the boots. Layering can cover the orange circles remaining.

DO NOT PUT THIS SHIT ON US! DO NOT HANG THE ENTIRE BRAND AROUND OUR NECKS. DO NOT do the scummy Mattel MOTU / Funpub subscription strategy of implying that if funding fails, the whole thing could end forever and ever. If this fails, it deserves to fail because Hasbro failed to match appropriate product to the right sales pitch for their targeted customer base. AND if the whole Transformers brand fails, it fails from a bad overall strategy and/or a series of smaller failures, not this highest priced official product; UNLESS they're already teetering over the edge of the abyss, in which case we only delay the inevitable.

if unicron fails it wont tank the brand, however it may cause hasbro to reconsider adult fans and how much effort they put in towards catering to them

But if you consider that the 2 min was sped up footage and cuts..... Should take them..... hm.... I'm guessing the entire run time of TF prime to finish?

Interesting transformation video. It looks like they've designed it so that Unicron can remain on his stand during transformation, which I think is not only ingenious but may even be required considering his size and weight. Imagine having to man-handle Unicron while trying to fold all those panels without the stand.

Okay i'm actually really hyped he seems to be able to remain on the stand during conversion so I don't have to have someone else hold it for me every time I wanna transform him

That's asinine if they start using that train of thought. Adult collectors have been catered to in the past and the world kept on spinning. If this single $575.00 makes or breaks it for us, then Hasbro truly is run by incredibly stupid people as some have claimed.

Think about it, that would punishing us all because a select few couldn't come up with $600.00 in a little over a month because they have other things to worry about, such as feeding their family and paying bills.

If they had given people more time, more options, and it still failed, then they'd be right to say "wow, we miscalculated. Adult collectors are cheap and suck!" Not in this case. It's on Hasbro to ask so much in such a small amount of time. If the future hinges on their bumrush decision, that's pretty pathetic business management on Hasbro's part.

And before anyone brings 3rd party into this... Yeah, people have paid $600 for a set of figures or something along those lines, but you also have months, if not a year plus to come up with all of that money by the end of it. With delays and selling combiners piecemeal, it gives even the brokest among us at least a reasonable chance.

And yes, yes, I understand how crowdfunding works and why you have to strike while the iron's hot and all that jazz.

None of that gives Hasbro the right to second guess us adult collectors because we can't or won't come up with $600.00 in a month's time, basically. That's more or less a "you did this to yourselves!" Kind of deal and even hardcore official supporters would call them on it

adult collectors consistently complain about price while also complaining that hasbro caters more towards children. this is an opportunity for fans to put up or shut up. if this fails then business will continue as usual, but dont expect hasbro to come out with high dollar collector oriented stuff, simple as that. they'll continue to import takara stuff, but if the money isnt there for them to produce something why would they bother?

As long as sales are strong in other areas, I don't think that would change much in Hasbro's mind. All it proves is that Transformers fans don't earn twice as much money as Star Wars fans do.

Really, I think the majority of fans in any fandom have difficulty justifying spending more than $200 on a toy at even given time, let alone $400 for a barge or $600 for a Unicron. That's not to say there's a fair few...but the question is whether there's enough of them.

And you forgot the whole part about funding opened only for north America. It shows how they see/consider their fandom and explains lot of things aboutworld wide distribution..

I think had Unicron been closer to $300, we'd be having a much, much different discussion. Would it be 19 lbs and 27 inches tall? Perhaps not. But I think fans would have been equally impressed with a 24" Titan class with $150 worth of extra girth and functionality.

I remember seeing 4-6 Metroplexes at Toys R Us on the shelf back in the day. There's no way they'd stock more than one Unicron on the floor, it takes up entirely way too much space. And only the backers are getting Unicron. If they have any left over for whatever reason, they'll probably sell them on their eBay account like they did with the Jabba barge that was also crowd funded. But it wasn't that many extra at all.

They can't mass produced them because they don't have an outlet to sell them at. Shelf space is valuable real estate for stores. And who would carry him? Probably only Walmart and Target.

There's 3,568 regular Walmarts in the US and 1,851 Targets in the US. That's 5,419 locations to sell Unicron at. I can imagine they wouldn't try to sell him at every location because it's such a large high priced item and not likely to sell at certain locations. Even if they shipped one to each store, it still doesn't meet the required 8,000 backers to make producing this viable, a number which still isn't mass production numbers.

Did Walmart and Target even carry Titans?

I'm sorry, but I disagree. Fans consistently bought $600.00 worth of collectibles from BotCon, every year. They weren't cheap, they saved. They knew they had 365 DAYS, not 6 weeks, to save up for that.

And limiting people to 5 per person prohibits stores like BBTS from getting more, so more can have it in time.

People WANT to fund this thing, they CAN'T. That's Hasbro's choice. So, let's say you're right and this is a make or break thing on Hasbro's end... Then they're doing it on purpose. They'll know this will fail, they know we'll complain, they'll use it as an excuse.

If that happens, then they're really terrible as people and companies go, considering we're so close to the 40th.

I don't think it's quite that evil, yet. Let's hope you're wrong. Really, really wrong.

If Walmart and Target can pallet drop Barbie Dreamhouses during the holidays, they could possibly do the same for Unicrons. The problem lies in that he's a $575 + tax luxury item. I don't think I've ever seen a $575 anything besides TVs at Target.

technically that was true to start with but now takara are taking orders or going to be for their side of the world and other online retailers outside of the usa are able to get pre orders too so it's now open to a wider fanbase

Don't worry, most of his transformation will get filmed off camera anyway while it's pointed out that it's an extremely important but also difficult step.

I don't know, Barbie's a whole different matter compared to Transformers or any "boy" toyline.

Plus, a $200 dream house probably requires more assembly which means smaller shelf presence

I don't see how this applies here. MP 44 is $400+ and is clearly directed at adult collectors. The company will continue to make MP style figures and the prices aren't exactly going down.
