When Apple iPhone was first launched, many people were also saying "there's no way people are willing to pay that much for a phone", and yet iPhone is getting even more expensive today and people are still buying millions of it each year. Anything that relate to retail price, there are always naysayers. These naysayers always want thing to be ridiculous low price or even for free. We can always ignore them.

If you actually read the posts prior before posting a hair trigger comment, you would see that I mentioned basically a retool as well as likely terms in which the price would be less. But, to be fair, I tend to post while drinking as well.

How would the image you posted of Unicron attacking Cybertron be possible if he was the same size (being a retool)?

Couldn’t find the better one when he first attacks cybertron and they’re closer in size

i understand that some people want reissues but just like all of the other haslab projects this ain't coming back, your best luck would be for a ko company to do something with it but idk if that'll even happen

Yeah, it's a one and done. Not even sure if a KO would want to tackle this one after the whole Studio Cell... hiatus? Is that the best word for it? I mean, it did come out and it is getting a reissue in a new color but there was certainly something that happened that made them rebrand.

sure although that was probably because it was being developed while the haslab crowdfunding was still going on so that was probably a big factor in what happened to studio cell.

Thanks - yes I did pull the lever down and thought had it correct but looked again and it wasn't fully engaged with the folded joint it needs to hold, so have fixed now, thanks for the advice - the manual is really not clear on this!

Not to get to far in the weeds beyond what's already been said, but I find these two bolded statements entirely contradictory.

If it's not in our "collector lifespans" (however you want to define it), I seriously have doubts that it would EVER happen.

I doubt it will ever happen, anyway, of course. Hasbro's left themselves legal wiggle room to do so, sure, but that doesn't mean it's ever actually going to happen.

But our generation is the only one ever likely to care about Unicron. I don't see some future generation coming along and rediscovering it.

As long as Transfromers: The Movie still exist, any generation can discover it and appreciate the madness of Unicron. To tell you a truth, I only watch that movie in bluray like 2 years ago.

I admit I’m guilty of this myself when it came to the iPhone years back. I learned you should never underestimate the appeal of an item if there is a demand for it, regardless of the price.

Technically the truth, but there are tons are classic movies out there that are mostly forgotten today. TFTM will almost certainly be listed among their number. We're just not going to see some sudden influx of new Unicron fans from it in generations to come.

A few weeks ago and I could have filled out this review request I was sent with, "don't know, still fucking waiting."

Nope, probably not from the '86 movie. The War for Cybertron series probably came and went at the wrong time to support both the campaign and renew interest. But the character has had its share of interpretations since '86 and resulted in a handful of figures and several repaints of one in particular.

But Classic Movies are not Classic Characters.

Will any of that result in this particular figure getting a rerelease? No, I believe that this was a one and done. [And barely so.] But the character will live on and future, likely much smaller, figures will be created because of it.

And I know the point you are stressing is that there's no amount of interest that will result in this figure getting a second release, as I said, there was barely enough interest this time.

Couldn't agree more. Unicron required two extensions to hit the goal while every other Haslab project since has slammed the minimum requirement within DAYS and maxed out stretch goals or close to. Heroquest only missed the last two stretch goals, while Razorcrest and Sentinel slammed their projects to completion. IIRC the sail barge sold faster than Unicron did too.

I think there was the demand for it, but the overall price made people shy away until FOMO became too strong and it looked like it was going to end up being backed afterall.

He didn't actually "need" the extension if you go back and look at the sequence of events and behind the scenes info we were being given, and it also only got a single extension if I'm remembering correctly

Saying that the Sail Barge sold faster than Unicron, besides ignoring that it's Star Wars, also ignores that it didn't even need to meet the same minimum that Unicron did.

Probably. It's been two years and I admit I don't remember the details anymore. All I remember is that it certainly felt like a stretch to get to the finish.

I personally think that either way it was going to succeed. Transformers is Hasbro's most powerful brand, even in 2019. Unicron was too big to fail. I'd it did then it'd show the world that perhaps Transformers isn't strong enough as Hasbro would've like to think. If fans can't be bothered to actually buy into Unicron then that could've been a black eye to a successful brand.

I could see Hasbro cooking the books if they had to. Unicron HAD to succeed. As much as Haslab is something for fans, it's also for Hasbro to flex to investors. "Look how strong our brands are that people will shell out big for these once in a lifetime pieces."

Wasn't Unicron the most expensive of all the Haslab offerings, though? That's not a small factor, I think. Heck, more expensive in $ and physical space in any given collection.

I think they learned a good lesson from Unicron, so we'll be unlikely to see any Haslab offerings that size again (but who knows? The Sail Barge is longer by far -- but also cheaper dollar-wise).

I believe that Haslab Unicron struggled to get backed because of bad timing. They pretty much announced him at the height of convention season, a bunch of high priced products were being released that summer & fall(mp44 to name one). I had a lot of stuff that was preordered and was going to drop in that timeframe. I was glad they did the extension so I was able to procure the money to secure mine. I remember alot of the uproar was from the fact that people needed more time to get their funds together.
The Razorcrest and Sentinel were put up during the lockdown of the pandemic. No one was spending huge amounts of money to go anywhere for conventions, vacations, and so forth. I believe that these contributing factors is why the latter two Haslab projects were so successful.
