Because everything in blue plastic is actually just one big single piece. That’s why Hasbro needs to recast that same piece but paint the circle the correct color. BTW, for those not familiar with industrial paints compared to the kinds we apply with a brush, the kinds they use are mush more durable and even. They need to do this in a factory set up.

 

I'm not saying the orange plastic definitely isn't durable, it's just the kind of reasons that have been cited in the past. Like with the gray inner legs on Earthrise Prime. They shared a spur with (I think) some section of the trailer. Some reason came up why the blue plastic didn't work for the trailer pieces after they'd laid out the spurs, so that spur became gray plastic and Prime's legs were no longer all blue.

The way these toys get made means this stuff is going to unavoidably happen sometimes. John Warden was openly passionate about this figure. I'm sure he's aware it's not as great as he wanted it to be (i.e. 98% accurate instead of 100%). I'm sure the team tried everything they could, but they're not omnipotent.

 

Anybody tried to get a refund over this?

don’t think I’d want to. But the reality is that studio cell (which I had real doubts about back when we were signing up to back) has really scratched my unicron itch.

figured I’d still make space for this guy somewhere, but this is kind of a big deal.

Taking off all those parts doesn’t make the bot mode look better just awkward in a different way.

 

Next to all those moving parts, any paint is just going to get obliterated.

Not really. I kinda like the blue colour in the centre of the maw at least. I think I'll just paint the trapezoidal pieces adjacent to the tooth roots. I don't need to paint all the way down into the gap. There should be no part rubbing on the top.

 

For those who have him in hand - what kinda timeline are we looking at for transformation? And does one conversion take significantly longer than the other (say, planet-to-robot or robot-to-planet)?
