Those broke more often than people remember. And always sagged. The biggest problem were the flimsy connections, either thin metal or even plastic. Anybody old enough to have seen CRTs mounted in schools (Ch1) should remember this. You could literally blow on the set, and it'd move, and not stop for a while (like that episode where Homer Simpson's fat jiggled, and he said "look at it go!"). Hospitals seemed to have more secure hardware, but still a sagging issue, never level no matter how hard you tried. For Unicron displaying, I really think this is a non-starter.

My high school had one hung 15 feet above some of our lunch tables, so either they were planning to kill us, or they had a fairly good stand.

It was more luck than anything else. Don't give too much credit to school budgets, it was likely the cheapest POS that money could buy. I read about TVs falling on students more than once in the 90s.

From memory, the biggest problem was when the arms were bolted into cinder blocks, which many schools used between classrooms. The concrete blocks slowly sanded themselves from the weight, enlarged the hole, and came crashing down. While that may seem OT, it's not. If you do mount Unicron to the wall, pay attention to the wall itself!

Of a scale of "oops, that was dumb" to "WTF was I thinking!!??", a $600+ toy is probably pretty low on the scale. That upper end is reserved for exes, 4/5/6-digit costs like cars or boats or houses, bad investment choices.

Therefore, if it were my Unicron on a pedestal: "Here sits $625. That was dumb. But, but ... it's Unicron!"  

Hence why I'm not getting one. But I can still live vicariously, enjoy you all enjoying yours.

I went through Toydojo cause they had a smaller deposit lol. Also from what I've seen unlike bbts, they don't count the deposit as part of the final taxed price, so I'll get to save like 10 bucks in tax.

 

ehh im familiar with bbts and ive never gone though toy dojo, and at this price i feel like trying to find the best deal based on a $10 difference is kinda a moot point.

 

yeah I'll be honest, thats something I found out after the fact. The real reason was they were the only legit vendor I could think of after realizing "Oh shit bbts stopped taking orders".
