I was wondering who else in this thread was gonna be old enough to remember when TFW hosted Car Robots episodes :lol

Funny enough, I just found these VHS rips of the Car Robots fansub I remember buying on VHS off eBay in 2000-2001 sometime, so it's a good time to remember how we used to have to watch Car Robots!

I bought some, too. The seller was local sooner up with her. It was a great time, before streaming days, to be able to get a copy on VHS. How things have changed.

Probably won't be more than the price you paid for it. While Unicron is selling at a hefty premium over its original price, a lot has changed since then for TF Haslab projects. Not only are they now available across the globe through various partnerships, resellers have also caught on and order extras to resell. That means more on the market later and no outstanding demand that isn't met. So prices for Star Saber, while higher than the original price, aren't "gangbusters", especially after you consider shipping (if its included) and e-bay fees.

All to say, you'll basically get back what you paid for it and maybe a little bit more.

Agreed - I can't deny the convenience of being able to just hop on Youtube to watch the really good new fansub, but I think I'm gonna spend the rest of my life chasing that high of saving up $15 to buy three more episodes on video tape over the internet :lol

Thanks, Pen Pen, very cool, makes me feel great :lol  I am glad you young whippersnappers have an interest in our old pal Fire Convoy at least!

I assume it's how a lot of us old-timers found this place, right? Darned if I can remember how I came across it, but I know I found out about Car Robots because of this place, and conversely I found out about this place because of Car Robots.

(I also had to re-create my account due to forum reasons a year or two after joining, which is why I have a join date of 2002, but my point stands.)

I found this place after BM came and went. And I was like "There are other Transformers fans?!?"

I used to spend HOURS on a dial connection to download those episodes. Firsts years of internet here in Peru. Enjoying every episode, learning Japanese, this series and collection made me a full-time Transformers collector.

    FIREEEEEEEE!!

Honestly Prime designs have gone downhill since the 2010s. They used to be so unique whilst still looking recognisable with Fire Conboy being my personal favourite. I’d say the last great Optimus design was probably Beast Hunters before they all started going Evergreen. Glad we’ve finally reached the point where Hasbro sees the demographic who grew up with these shows as a group to cater to rather than just rehashing Geewun over and over again

same here. before the RiD dub aired on FOX kids I had seen most of the series already, and it is still awesome to this day. i appreciate what TT is doing (I enjoyed this show without subs). But the whole series is available with fansubs on YT as well. I m just hoping all of this convinces Hasbro to request purchase of this series back from Disney (they need money, so I'm sure Hasbro can get it for cheap), LOL... so we can finally get a legit North American release on physical media.

Always a good feeling, right? Especially in those days, when BM scared a lot of us away from being into TFs anymore :lol  I was briefly on the edges of the Usenet alt.rec.transformers days, but when I found this place it looked way cooler, was easier to use, and people wanted to also talk about other stuff I liked like anime and video games, so it was no contest where I was gonna go.

This is the stuff I like to hear! I also took up way too much phone time to download stuff, but my family had already been on the internet for a while by then thanks to my dad's job, so I can't imagine how crazy it was in those days for you.

(Also, learning Japanese for Car Robots is awesome; I went to Japan and could only speak enough Japanese to ask how much toys cost and see if anything on the menu was vegetarian, so you're doing way better than me!)

    FIRE FLAAAASH!

Probably means they were really good, right?

Honestly, as someone that was alive at the tail end of G1, I'm inclined to agree. Heck, even in G2 we would get stuff like Hero Optimus, Laser Optimus, and Go-Bot Optimus, so the idea of Prime being more varied in appearance was something that happened pretty early on in the life of the franchise. That Car Robots-Cybertron run is maybe the peak of Transformers design for me, and I'd love to see them go back to taking those sort of risks with future designs. (Aaron Archer has talked about this a bit on his podcast, if you're interested to give that a listen!)
