"Hey guys remember when we reduced plastic from our boxes for environmental friendly packaging? What if we undid all that"

 

I don't understand what or why this is. Also I'm seeing people talking about this being harmful to the environment but could someone please explain why that is to me? I really am curious and would like to know.

From what I can gather though, it sounds completely worthless.

 

How is this literally not a scam?

Someone explained it to me as "Imagine a Mercedes Benz in the desert, being left on idle, and then it somehow makes money" thats what this is. It's just a digital certificate of authenticity but it also pollutes the enviroment, a win for no one!

 

Crypto transactions require tons of computing power, which burn through electricity but also put out tons of heat.

On top of that, the computing power needed to do these calculations puts high demand on computer parts, which require tons of raw materials and natural resources that aren't exactly in ready supply.

 

Call me old fashioned but I like spending money on physical goods over .mp4 files

More likely someone *will* buy these. Probably not even TF fans since at this point NFTs are just a prospector/money laundering scam.

 

I can't wait for the Target-exclusive Cobra Island NFTs, the only G.I. Joe Classifieds exclusives anyone will be able to find.

 

For reference the transaction of an NFT is equivalent to 4 days of an average human's carbon emissions.

Also you don't even own an image you own a link to an image.

 

Honestly I'm just glad that from what I'm reading so far most of us on the same board. I'm cool with buying digital art to support artists or like collectible in games and whatnot but everyone under the sun getting involved with NFTs and in some cases trying to profit off of the deceased disgusts me.

Thanks to both of you for explaining it in understandable terms, and yeah I don't like that.

I can defend the idea of spending real money to buy a cosmetic or something in a video game, because at least it's something you can utilize in game with other people. But this seems like a glorified JPEG, you could literally just download the image and BAM! Your done.
