I mean honestly? No they're not, not at all. BUT those servers are already out there drawing power. This is just adding to that. The goal is to REDUCE power usage not increase it.

Yeah obviously, is that even a question? Wanting to make money is an obviously evil trait.

What, are you saying you DON'T want to own an officially licensed picture of Big Chungus worth 2000$?!

My toys are precious jewels. This gif art is poo. I’m sure the environment understands.

What about all the power used to make food? or run lights? Or etc etc etc. Just because a problem exists, does not mean you can simply ignore when something makes it worse. That's a CLASSIC logical fallacy. If your house is on fire, you don't go "oh well, might as well throw on a bit of gasoline".

Also for the record, I haven't purchased a TF in over a year, and have sold nearly all of mine.

Literally nothing. In fact many don't even need to be bought as if the NFT isn't set up very well you can often inspect the elements to get the URL it points to, download the image, and distribute it freely.

The most recent example I can think of is that Chadwick Boseman NFT from the Academy.

It's another reason people oppose these. They're a monumental waste of resources for something that not only is easily compromised, but inevitably becomes worthless when whatever server hosts it goes belly up.

Or the other popular "well *my* house isn't on fire so I don't know what we're worried about."

The difference between owning a toy and owning an NFT is like driving your F-150 to the store for groceries, and letting your coal rolling F-450 idle outside in the parking lot.

Once again you and @T-Hybrid fail to grasp why these things are brought up in the first place and assume it's a case of whataboutism. Also for future reference it'd be more helpful to describe WHAT fallacy is being committed, usually when someone just says "that's a fallacy yo" they just assume that'll be enough for everyone involved or just use it as a buzzword. Be specific.

Your response to the Netflix, Youtube and Twitter comment was "Yes I have an issue with those, but they've already been doing it." So? Just because they've been doing it doesn't mean it's not an issue, furthermore this is a larger issue than you and others seem to think it is and I think it's too big for this toy robot site, especially when there's not exactly a simple solution for it.

Why is it that some people, when presented with the fact that something completely intangible is a massive waste of energy and is worsening climate change, will immediately counter with "Yeah, but what about this other unrelated thing that also spends energy but actually produces physical goods? Gotcha!"
    ...Rhetorical question.

I never said it wasn't an issue. The problem is it IS an issue. However, my point is that we have models for what happens if Netflix keeps running their servers at current capacities (newsflash it ain't good). We DON'T have models for what happens when corporations start mass producing imaginary products, each of which uses the same amount of energy as the average human does over a multi-month period of time. This is in essence adding another person to the power grid every time one of these is produced.

    Literally what?

What "larger issue" is at play here? The company that makes the toy robots we like wants to use that toy robot brand to promote something with demonstrably dangerous impact on our environment.

Why the hell *shouldn't* we take this opportunity to tell the company that makes the toy robots we like that we don't want them to do this in the name of the toy robots we like?

I don't need to Google names of fallacies. It's a common practice we see all the time. Any one small action towards progress is argued to be worthless because it alone doesn't change anything. We saw it when Hasbro first announced they'd be scaling back plastic packaging.

No, Hasbro backing down from NFTs won't magically save the environment...but it at least keeps them trending the correct way.

And a large company like Hasbro that owns multiple high profile franchises (ex: Star Wars/Marvel) coming out and going "No, NFTs are harmful and we won't do them." would help elevate the conversation by putting some force behind it.

Glad to see all the logic bros are here pointing out our horrific hypocrisy of buying toys and yet being concerned about the future of the planet. That obviously invalidates all our arguments. You’re so brilliant!

If only we were more concerned about what really matters, like Unicron's maw color. You know...the real important stuff.
