I knew there'd be some good digs at Real when I saw there were already replies to this. This is a weird decision. Does ANYONE use Real anymore? Maybe they should partner with Netscape Communicator while they're at it.
Hasbro Teams Up With Radio Shack to Expand Computer Entertainment for Classic Games Properties Tuesday February 14, 11:20 pm ET BOISE and PAWTUCKET, R.I.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 13, 2006--The Hasbro Properties Group (HPG), the intellectual property development arm of Hasbro, Inc. (NYSE: HAS - News) today announced a global licensing agreement with Radio Shack, Inc (NYSE: SHAQ) to produce electronic games exclusively for the Tandy computer systems that found their way into a few hundred homes in the mid 1980s "Our agreement with Radio Shack-once a third tier brand in the home computer arena--is one more example of Hasbro's commitment to expand our presence to 30-somethings living in the past with many of our popular toy and game brands," said Jane Ritson-Parsons, president of the Hasbro Properties Group. "We see the Tandy computer as a natural complement to the lifestyle experiences that we're providing to consumers in a variety of categories- particularly those who collect G.I. Joes, Transformers, and My Little Ponies- in an effort to reclaim their childhood." "Frankly, we have no idea why they made the offer. We just took the money and ran," said Travis Blake, Assistant Manager at the Radio Shack of Midway Mall in Lorain, Ohio. "Now, in addition to all this crap," said Blake, gesturing to an overstock of radio-controlled vehicles left over from Christmas, "I'm gonna have to deal with smelly fanboys asking if we have any Tandys left, or Tandy emulators, or some other bull$#!^ stuff. That cashier position at Circuit City is looking better and better." The first game from Hasbro for the Tandy system will be a 3 dice version of Yahtzee to be released in June. Said Lead Software Designer Jacob Williams, age 12, "This is stupid. They actually used to put programs on casette tapes?" As Hasbro and Radio Shack are both sure of the power of their brand names, they elected not to provide any more information about who they are.
Gracias. Although Hasbro's was slightly more amusing to me. -Tony! Please note that this bumping of a thread is being done in the same vein as rock stars saying the name of the city they're playing. "I hear [your city] likes to party!"
Well, I use RealPlayer. Now, seriously: isn't real media used as much as windows media and quicktime nowdays? Or am I that out of the loop. That said, I still don't understand this decision. Wait and see I guess. -airfox
Well, if I understand it correctly, whatever RealNetworks and Hasbro cook together should work on RealAlt. I'm thinking more on the format than on the player itself. -airfox
