I've begun to think Hasbro should start to do DC style animated movie approach to Transformers.

One thing that has been successful for DC is doing a series of animated films based on popular stories. Transformers, in my opinion, has a similar 'multiverse' format that means it's not like the Marvel Universe where one grand narrative needs to be preserved. Stories can be picked up and told with limited backstory because the 'basic origin' of Transformers, similar to Batman and Superman, is usually basically the same, with the individual comic or TV stories stemming from an almost story singularity only with changes to the basic cast of characters. It also has a wide library of characters with a central BIG 7 style core group (Optimus Prime, Megatron, Starscream, Bumblebee, Soundwave, Grimlock, Shockwave) with a few additional prominent members (Prowl, Jazz, Rodimus/Hot Rod, Galvatron, Ultra Magnus) that rotate in. This means you have a wide variety of major stories to tell, as well as some minor ones.

Some stories I'd suggest for the videos

Target 2006 (probably the first one worth doing)
    The War Within
Transformers Generation 2 (G.I.Joe, Cobra, Megatron, Optimus returning)
    Matrix Quest
    IDW Unicron
    Infiltration
The Last Stand of the Wreckers
Beast Wars featuring unused toy characters
    Megatron Origins
A old Knights of Cybertron style film
    Optimus Prime's origin
Marvel Unicron and or his aftermath
Scorponok vs Shockwave (Decepticon Civil War)
    Starscream Trimuphs (Transformers #50)
    Something based on Devestation
A Prime spinoff movie or cartoon
    Something set in RiD
    Are All Dead
    Transformers/GI Joe

    And so on...

I really think that a cartoon that attempts to afix itself to a singular continuity is really limiting for this particular franchise, and I believe this would be the way to go.

Do it the same way. Farm it out to individual, smaller animation studios. Similar to what people do when they pay the Cowboy Bebop people to do a single episode, short, or movie.

What Hasbro really needs is a grand plan akin to Rebuild of Evangelion/ MCU or something akin to Gundam where all series are in the same timeline but are so sparse apart newcomers can still understand what is happening.

The habbit of starting one continuty, then suddenly give minimal support and before scrapping it is frustrating. Case in point? TFA Season 4. By having a grand plan show writers wouldn't write themselves into a hole they couldn't crawl out of (TFP comes to mind, I believe I've read that there were plans for years to come, only to burn up all of them super quickly). Moreover, by creating one continuity and then add more and more building blocks it would streamline A LOT of things and make the franchise much more acessable.

G1, despite having some pretty crappy writing is riddled full of great ideas. If all of these concepts get rebooted and streamlined into multiple seasons of a new a show I'm sure that a lot of people would be happy. Power of the Primes is supposed to be this I guess, but look how that turned out...

If the movies are as well put together as the DC animated films, I'd be all in on this idea.

DC movies are dumpster fires, but they've got the animation down to a science.

I would like to see this as long as they were released on dvd or blue ray.
I recently picked up Batman Vs Ninja Turtles at the supermarket and was pleasently surprised. The DC animated movies are reasonably priced too.
They also wouldnt need to rely on a TV channel screening them at decent times.

I feel like this was the idea behind that awful machinima series. More adult, animated with storylines for hardcore fans who didn't need a lot of setup or relatable human characters. Too bad it was terrible.

Considering the average DCAU movie costs 3.5 million, I would say no.

I'd be all for that, hopefully we got some good stand-alone stories out of it.

Now that be good ideas as you can hire the studio behind Castlevania or Madhouse or Production IG or whatever.
