That's possibly not-so-great news. On the one hand, it shows that they're willing to cut away the dead flesh so the rest doesn't rot, which is great given the current economy and their last shareholder meeting promises. On the other hand, it shows that they're hurting and need to spin off different things here and there so they can stay afloat without having to raise prices again. The animation company would now need to buy a license from Hasbro to produce cartoons for them and that would make for a new revenue stream. The sad thing is, when stuff like this happens, there's usually a bunch of layoffs somewhere along the line. If that happens, it'll really suck for those animators.
Hard to tell what it means really, if anything other than just the usual trading of things between corps. I'd be more worried if Boulder had been the ones making Earthspark and they canned the show early as a result. Regardless, I hope everyone at Boulder survives the transition and gets to do some fun projects whether they're from Hasbro or not.
Shame the animation.on cyberverse was really good. I wonder if this means botbots won't get a season 2
This move doesn’t exactly bode much confidence for the future given how much money they invested in the studio only to sell them off 5 years later. Shame because I liked a lot of the stuff they worked on
Well, I suppose it makes sense, given that first WFC, and now Earthspark, indicate that they've returned to partnering with other studios to create their animated shows, rather than doing it all in-house. Boulder did good work on the TF shows they worked on, but the all-in-house nature of the production coupled with with the consistent use of Canadian and/or non-union voice actors always gave them the air of "the cheap option," whereas what we've seen of Earthspark so far really looks, feels, and sounds like it's had some *money* pumped into it.
