Personally I like the retro line. I don’t think I will get any of the 6 inch figures though. Keep in mind that when Temple of Doom came out LJN had the license. I would love them to combine the films. For Crystal skull I could see a few figures that would be cool: Russian soldier, Mutt in leather jacket( I know I know)Mac, Spalko, Oxlie, Older Marion. For Last Crusade:Elsa, Vogel, Donovan, Salah, Grail Knight, young Indy and Professor Henry Jones.
I don't think they intend for the line to last more than a couple of years. It's not an evergreen like Marvel or SW, and there aren't enough noteworthy characters to sustain a line indefinitely. I think hasbro is going into this with Indy's history in mind, knowing full well that it's a limited time engagement. And I think most fans are ok with that, assuming it doesn't die before half the characters are made while giving us 27 Indys. If they do 6-8 waves total and try to keep it to one Indy per wave going forward, they should be able to give us a solid, finite line.
Nazi's will not be made, so army building is out and a lot of characters from arguably the two biggest flims of the franchise. Most people basically want one Indy figure. Most will probably want the main cast from the Last Crusade. Doubt there would be a Haslabs, but if one is ever offered, again it would be from The Last Crusade, and probably be a three trials to reach the grail room playset.
I can only come up with about 40 figures across 4 movies. If they can hit most of them, I think it'll be alright for a finite line (though I personally couldn't care less about Temple). Spoiler: 10-7-10-9-4 Raiders (10) Indy Sallah Toht suit Belloq, priest Belloq Cairo Marion, dress Marion German mechanic Cairo swordsman German soldier Temple (7) shirtless Indy, tux Indy Shortround pants Willie, dress Willie Mola Ram random cult thug Crusade (10) Indy Henry Sr Marcus Dr Elsa, Nazi Elsa Donovan Vogel grail knight fez mustache guy boy scout Indy (Sallah and German solider would be repeats so...) Skull (9) old Indy old Marion Mutt Mack Oxley Spalko Dovchenko Russian soldier crystal alien NuJones (4) older Indy Helena villain 1 villain 2
German soldiers can be emblem-less and generic, so they can make for good grunts for any shelf. Same for the (god forbid) Crystal Skull Russians.
They released the Nazi soldiers in the last line as 'German Soldier' so they don't have a problem making them. I could even see them going super generic naming and call them 'Enemy Soldier' if needed. But no, I doubt they will have red armbands. Top 2 pack NOT likely to EVER be made: 'Signing of the Diary' set with Indy & Adolf. I thought of a playset that might be cool. The temple at the beginning of Raiders. Be mostly a floor and a wall. About 2 foot long. Little presure plates on the floor near the idol pedestal launch spring loaded arrows. A gap in the floor with a whip to swing across it. Then at the end, a plastic bolder rolls down onto the playset. For any other company, maybe $50 at most. For Hasbro: $150
The 6-inch Indiana Jones figures have hit my country and I picked up the entire wave! Here are my thoughts: i. The Ark looks beautiful. I can't tell if there are paint apps because some parts of the gold look shinier than others. ii Indiana's likeness looks better in person...it could be that I have low expectations but IMO I'm satisfied with it. iii. Sallah's face sculpt...he looked downright grumpy to me - I wished he had a more smiling face. iv. Marion has the best likeness to me but her ankles...look swollen v. Rene...I wished we got his other outfits. This one is too scene specific. vi. Toht. Not much complaints about him but like some of you guys mention...we need enemy soldiers. I wish I could post pictures but there is some issues with my hp.
But that was before the time of "everything is a dogwhistle" era of social media. I think its gonna be hard to navigate doing the bad guys without randos on Twitter yelling HASBRO CONDONES NAZIS!
It's not that. It's literally illegal to display (never mind sell) anything with Nazi symbols on it in many EU nations (Russia and China too) unless it's in educational materials. It's been this way for like 50 years or more. Look at OG Gi-Joes or action man, their WW2 Germans never had any Nazi symbols on them either.
The original Soldier of the World G.I. Joe German uniform, has the nazi symbol on the belt buckle. other then that only Cotwold WWII Germans and Dragon toys uniforms have the swastika.
Exactly, there are enough german and russian soldiers in these films, any kind of eastern block axis type generic trooper would be great, same with some middle eastern guys like the monkey trainer and Cairo swordsman. Maybe include some alternate parts so we could swap around and make a handful of unique dudes. It's a win-win with army builder figures. If they go down the 90's Mattel Batman road, just giving us the 83rd version of the main guy, like Lava Armor Scuba Stealth Indiana Jones and no bad guys for him to punch, shoot, whip, or throw off of a truck/motorcycle/blimp, the line will die a quick death... and no one will mourn it. Fingers crossed they have more sense than that.
And do they sell them in the EU? No they don't, cause it's illegal. Cotswold is based in Texas, where Nazi symbols aren't banned. Try getting one of their products imported in you're in a nation where those symbols are banned. Here's a hint: it'll get seized and destroyed.
I wouldn't expect them to put Nazi symbols on the toys...I just hope they don't shy away from making German soldiers...minus the symbols
As Europeans are quick to point out to us in America, your country != the world. Hell, in 2018, one of our states was a bigger economy than any nation in Europe except Germany.
