So I got this Hero Series X-Wing to do a custom with. It is a bit small for 6 inch Black Series, but that's what I collect so I'm going to make it work. A few issues -the wings are in a fixed closed position. -the cockpit doesn't open or have glass -the landing gear is way to short in the front, has no flaps and the rear has none at all. -the cannons aren't accurate at all. -R2 (I use the Bandai model) doesn't fit. It's going to be a challenge to do, and I may not be able to address all these issues. But I will try. I will update pics as progress happens. In the meantime, if anyone is aware of any build videos or inspiration, it would be most welcome as would constructive feedback. Wish me luck
It's kind of a blessing that last month I built a Bandai 1/144 scale model X Wing. It will be a great reference for parts I need to fabricate.
I did a similar project last year. I didn't make too many modifications other than opening up the cockpit, adding windows and a little bit of lighting. I was inspired by some similar mods on the X-wing that I saw on-line (I can't remember where exactly -- I think maybe on the RPF forums (the Replica Prop Forums). I remember seeing someone completely redoing the wings (setting the X-wing in open-wing configuration) -- I think they fabricated new wings with wood. It was over a year ago, so I apologize for not remembering where I saw these. Here's a link to my custom Hero X-wing: Non-TF: - Custom Star Wars 29" Black Series X-Wing Fighter (Modified Hero Series X-Wing) Good luck with your project. I'm really looking forward to seeing it completed. One word of advice -- the plastic used on the X-wing is very soft. I used an Exacto knife when I made my cuts -- not sure if it was the right tool, so you might want to experiment with what works best for you.
