Hasbro Buys Entertainment One for $4 Billion

Nice to see Hasbro doing well enough to pull this off. Now to see how much it profits off this. And if said profits can be invested back into our favorite Transformers IP.

Mods, please relocate if there's a more appropriate place for this thread.

I just shudder to think of a PJ Masks/Transformers crossover. (Then again, PJ Masks/Recue Bots might be fun for kids).

Or a new kids line of Beast Wars whose alt modes are Peppa Pig characters. lol

This is huge. Transformational (excuse the pun) for Hasbro, the toy industry and the entertainment industry. Eone has a lot of assets and capabilities, and thus massively expands Hasbro’s presence in entertainment.

Hard to say the effect on Transformers. Probably not a lot short term, but long term they will in-house all the TV production and because Hasbro owns TF it is incentivized to produce a lot more TF content.

With the IPs Hasbro gets access to from this purchase, they would have even more to show off at a future HasCon. And with even more stuff for the younger kids to enjoy. Although the My Little Pony toon is ending, this could net them the Peppa Pig and PJ Masks toy buyers for kids still watching those.

Would love to get my boy into transformers using Peppa pig. He loves that show :D

If they have the same kind of comedy as Peppa pig I'd be down. Some of the jokes go way over kids heads.

My 3-yr-old nephew likes Peppa Pig as well. :D  It'd be interesting to suddenly see and hear "Peppa Pig, Porkicize!"

Wow, that's the same price Disney paid for Star Wars. I don't think I'm too familiar with Entertainment One, but I guess it must be pretty valuable.

I hadn't really heard of eOne myself either, but I would expect Hasbro to do a lot with this considering it includes "a global film and TV production and distribution business". Will be interesting to see how they leverage that.

Speaking of film and such, if i get a news credit for this thread, I would first like to thank the mods and the Academy... LOL

If only the largest toy company known as Hasbro could merge with the greatest electronic company like Sony, That would be pure heaven for the both them and the TF brand. We could even get an exclusive Spiderman crossover with Transformers like the original Marvel Comics #4.

That's a really interesting move, and I'm not quite sure what the motivation is. Are they looking to do a lot more in-house in developing media for their brands? Are they looking to have more capabilities to distribute the media they already have rights to?

I'm not sure how much media EOne owns the rights to, vs. just the distribution rights to, but they've got their hands in a lot more beyond kids brands, they're into tv, movies, music, etc. as well.

Also interesting is they now own what was once Alliance Atlantis, who distributed Beast Wars (and Transformers stuff in Canada in the late 90s early 00s).

It could complicate a lot of relationships with other studios/production companies/toymakers, though.

And thus Hasbro owns CSI... let's hope they don't try to restart that and make it any MORE cartoony. David Caruso was already enough of that... LOL

I have no idea what any of this means, but it sounds very impressive. Good job Hasbro!

    I am somehow less impressed.

I was perusing the forums and saw the partial headline and thought the same thing.

Now's the perfect time for a Generations Kaon!
