News Post: Hasbro Applies For The TransFormers Trademark
More g1 reissues?
I hope they get rejected.
That's...interesting. Wonder if they're looking to redo the style of things like packaging and such.
Well it's a good thing that we're all in support of Hasbro keeping this brand we all like.
Wait, you're not serious, right?
Doubling down on G1 I guess.
Does the capital F make a differance?
Since trademarks are only defensible if actively used, this definitely suggests intent to actively use that specific classic mark in the near future. I look forward to what that might mean.
I imagine it was an attempt to specifically suggest the classic mark. As the description puts it, "The mark consists of stylized letters TRANS stacked above stylized letters FORMERS."
That makes sense, I suppose... Although I would assume any one that tryed to make a toy like called "Tans _________________________________________________________________________________________Formers" Would be on very thin ice leagealy.
Not gonna dispute that. This is just a specific registration that specifically entails the visual look of the G1 classic mark. It doesn't cover, say, the current sideways-oriented version, but that doesn't mean that said current version is powerless.
G1 hater huh?
More G1 reissues!
I could make a joke about the gender fluidity of certain characters of the IDW universe.. but I won't.
Seems expected tbh. We are hitting the 35th anniversary, and Bumblebee is really kicking it off right, with Siege continuing it on.
So very smart move on hasbro's part.
Could definitely see this meaning the return of classic packaging styles for WFC2, as they enter what's likely the Exodus phase which is the original MTMTE beginning of G1.
Also seems fitting on timing with the potential IDW relaunch coming up.
Could also see this meaning some new sidelines coming up for figures they didn't have room elsewhere for.
I know it wouldn't happen, but this got me wondering, "What if Hasbro lost the Transformers/TransFormers/Trans Formers(however you want to spell it) trademark?"
Would Hasbro just call their lines the subtitle? Like instead of "Transformers: Cyberverse" it'd just be "Cyberverse".
Or would they call themselves "The ORIGINAL Transformers" or something like that and try to trademark that? Similar to when they do like a new Jazz toy and they have to call it "Autobot Jazz" because just "Jazz" is too generic or is currently trademarked by another company.
Or, what I would really like to see, is they fall back on the last and only Transformers line where "Transformers" wasn't a main part of the title: Beast Wars. Maybe then we'd finally get a whole line of CHUG-style Beast Wars figures instead of one or two sprinkled in an ocean of G1. Although, this is Hasbro. Knowing them, even if they were forced to make a line called "Beast Wars" they'd find some way of filling it with the same old G1 characters. "Oh, hey! Here's our new Optimus Prime figure. Yes, he still turns into a red truck. But this one comes with Roller, except now Roller turns into a little robot lion. We were going to rename him Growller, but apparently a "growller" is a dirty word in the UK, so we stuck with Roller. All our Beast Wars™ figures are the classic G1 characters that you know and love, that turn into the same things, and look exactly the same as ever version you've bought in the past, but now they all come with a Minicon/Micromaster(we're still not sure which we have copyrighted right now) who turns into some kind of animal. This truly is Beast Wars as it was always meant to be", John Warden.
The Real Transformers
You applied for something that you already own?
First thought was, G2.
