So I have a preorder for the TakaraTOMY Rodimus Minor that I put in for back in May thinking the Hasbro release was iffy.

Unfortunately TFSource doesn't allow cancellations on preorders so I'll most likely end up with both the TakaraTOMY version and the Hasbro version if/when I find one.

I've been looking at the pics of the two and I can't seem to decide on which to keep.

While I do like the red on the Hasbro version, I do like the shimmering paint that TakaraTOMY tends to use on their versions. But as with most painted versions I'm always afraid of the paint scratching. I also appreciate the black bow on the TakaraTOMY version.

So help me out. Which should I keep?

 

If you want it as an Animated toy, get the Hasbro. If you want it as a Rodimus toy, get the Takara. Simple as that.

$1000 says Hasbro version will dominate the poll. I say by a 2:1 vote margin.  

 

Colors on the Hasbro seem a little better then the Takara version to me.

 

Need to see side by side pictures before I could give an opinion. But, I'm planning on getting both.

Hasbro cause it will be cheaper on the pocket. Takara makes great stuff cause I own quit a bit but its more expensive to get it over here from Japan.

 

Yeah if it weren't for the no-cancellation policy that TFSource had, I think I would've cancelled the TakaraTOMY one just on price alone.

But since I can't cancel it, I might as well take a look at it and see if it's worth keeping.

I figure it won't be that easy to sell anyways.

 

Unless you're rich or well off, you really should only by Takara if there is no other option.

Or, if for some weird reason it's actually the cheaper version.

 

Acccurate colours(hasbro) or better quality control(takara)?

For now i'll stick to takara.

 

Takara doesnt actually have better QC, as they use the same factories as hasbro.

 

They do, however, make some random bit on every figure vacuum metallic and therefore prone to flaking as it ages.

 

I much prefer the colours of the Hasbro version so I'm hoping a friend down in the states will be able to find me one (and an Ironhide). If not I do have both pre-ordered, so then I'd settle for the Takara versions of both figures.

 

That's Henkei, not Animated. No Animated figures have chrome on them. They do have metallic paint though.

The picture you have here is a stock photography promotional image of the HASBRO figure, not TakaraTomy's. Neither figure looks like this but it's not even a photo Takara used. Takara never uses these kinds of photos for things outside of the movie lines (and they only do then because they just use Hasbro's images). This is what the Takara one looks like.

With that said, I think both are nice and I like Takara's a little more because it's the magenta Hot Rod and Rodimus were in the 1986 film (even though it's not accurate to this Rodimus' colors - he should be very dark maroon which neither figure is close to).
