Since this is an Amazon and Hasbro partnership, maybe it only applies to Amazon exclusives?
Either way, it looks very similar to how Selects is currently packaged.

I can't imagine Walmart and other stores actually putting this kind of packaging on their shelves. Plain brown boxes just won't attract buyers in store.

aww, I wanted to see how far they could take the trend in the opposite direction. I wanted to see them reach unforeseen pinnacles of excess, infuriation-inducing, and wastefulness. They were so close.

Oh man, it just hit me that this means FAR less work for all the awesome packaging artists who provide TF art. Given there's no boxes, there's no gorgeous promo art. So Hasbro saves money through hiring less designers/contractors.

Do the customers get to benefit financially as well as the companies?

After watching that video, I highly suspect that this has nothing to do with reducing customer frustration and everything to do with Amazon finding another way to reduce packaging costs. Just slap a label on it and toss it on the conveyor. And it would save Hasbro money too. The fact that it reduces customer frustration and has an environmental aspect are just side benefits that make for a nice marketing campaign.

Also, I like the idea of reducing waste and all, but honestly I'm going to ask for it to go in a regular shipping box if they continue giving that as an option for items they would otherwise sent out with packaging revealing what's inside. Of course the way Amazon shipping has been going lately, I wouldn't be surprised if in the future that option consisted on shoving it in a brown paper bag sealed with a piece of scotch tape.

I am pretty sure you won't see it at retailers like Walmart. It wouldn't make sense, and I can't see that Walmart would stand for it. I think that Amazon is just a big enough business that they can go to Hasbro and make demands, the same way I've heard Walmart does with companies whose products it carries. You might see them coming that way from other online retailers though. I mean, if Hasbro is already doing it for Amazon, it stands to reason that other online business are going to want in it too.

    You're a funny guy. :)

What? They still have to design art for in-store products. There is no way they putting boxes on the shelves without any kind of art. Since this is an Amazon partnership, this is probably just for Amazon itself.

If physical retail is less of a focus though, it means less priority on the boxes.

Or does anyone else remember how Beast Machines packaging was just "here's a pic of Cheetor"?

Online this makes perfect sense (bought some ball playpen thing for my niece and nephew about 5 years ago from Amazon that came like this), reduces the size, reduces the mess. But at B&M, I don't even like items like Jetfire packaged without a window. Seems like a lot of the ties (on their example) are used to sell the product, tie around bottle to show it off, tie around other accessories to show them off. Could really just put them in a little cardboard insert in the bottom if they wanted without all these cumbersome ties (which really don't take more than a snip here and there, but they are used for marketing the product on the shelf, which you don't need to do online.

It will delay excitement a little on Christmas though till they bust into the brown box though.

LOL, reminds me of a paleontologist friend while watching me study a T-rex skull cast she brought home from a dig: "You DO realize that's a little too big for you to do Hamlet with, right?"

cheetor deserves it, he's probably the only tf character to get full development devoted across him in two shows.

LOL, try holding a skull as big as your whole body in one hand... or even two, even if it's fiberglass.
