I mean the toy distribution. Its the six characters on repeat in the toy aisles and not much else. I swear the mlp department these days are run by sentient copy machines.

Trust me, I've been an mlp fan since the 80s and before this generation, there was a ton of variety in the toyline. New characters, new poses, new lines and maybe a few repeats of the same character in a different set tops.
Hasbro's gotten fucking lazy with their best selling girl's franchise and its awful. That's what I mean when I compare it to TTG.

The equivalent would be like getting a ton of Megatron, OP, Starscream and Bumblee all the damn time and being forced to buy another one packed in, whenever they put out an Astrotrain or a Beachcomber.

Not to mention the QC is atrocious compared to past iterations. Makes Cyberverse toys look like masterpieces.

 

The Micronauts, another kind of obscure toy from the 80s where the characters were only made popular by the Marvel tie-in, their gimmick being that they were small (toy sized) people from another universe. I don't expect whatever Hasbro's plans for them are to pan out, since Marvel Micronauts fans may not accept non-Marvel Micronauts and Hasbro tends to be terrible at marketing anything that isn't Transformers or Ponies.

They also announced a Rom: Space Knight film a while back, and I don't expect that to work out either, for similar reasons...

Doesn't that reflect more on the fandom than on the show itself, though?

Seems I got their gimmick wrong--the actual toyline's gimmick was that all of their parts were interchangeable.

Rom is also an obscure character that was only popular because of a Marvel tie-in. His toy was awful but his comic was a cult hit, and then Marvel never bothered to renew the license when it expired. I only know about him because IDW brought the character back.

 

Well hope people will enjoy the new movies.

 

Atop the Fourth Wall did a big retrospective of the Marvel comic of Rom: Space Knight. If any movie adapts even a quarter of what happened in that run that didn’t involve the broader Marvel Universe, it would be fucking sweet.

Seriously, it was some glorious shit. If Linkara isn’t your bag I’m confident there are other video or text reviews on it.
