I thought stating specifically "comics today" was good enough for such learned scholars.

It doesn’t seem like her presence and the presence of the other female characters are meant to pander to the “muh representation” crowd. Furthermore, the presence of female characters aren’t being made into a big deal by the male characters. The emphasis of the story is the struggle between Autobots and Decepticons. Awesome. Perfect. I’m also liking the seekers. All of them. Finally, I find myself rooting for her because i actually get the impression she can lose the fights she’s in. I’ve mentioned her
fight in the Himalayas against a couple of seekers in another thread. She took some lumps and I thought she might lose the fight.
I dunno. Maybe she just comes across differently in a new medium.

I mean this is the only worthwhile criticism of the comic, but you neednt bring up clickbaity titled news articles, because the nature of corporate capitalism is a the real nightmare.

However, that said, its also kind of beside the point to the comic as such in so far as its a criticism that could be applied to any hasbro activity at all and indeed any corporate activity at all. There is no ethical consumption under capitalism.

Therefore the remainder is just that this is a cute dumb comic tryna talk up the experience of young girls playing with their toys*. If the surface of this idea is cause for outrage chances are yr doing a whole lotta work to get there (see: anything by novaburnhilde for instance)

*produced through the hellish reality of late capitalism.

But you get that they do it not because they really care about little girls or progressive ideals, but only because they know you (people with a dog in the hunt) see it and approve. It's all about market analytics and implementation strategy.

I guess that's why I disagree with you guys sometimes because I see what all of this nonsense actually is.

And you're right, there is no ethical consumption under capitalism. But there are definitely levels. I guess I just find it ironic some of the positions you hold when there is real suffering going on. I guess it's easier to ignore the real shit because it's out of mind and focus on stupidity of a messageboard.

Because, y'know, it's about choosing a side and 'owning' those people over there because they're not really people because they have different ideas about things.

They did and his name was Finback.

Anyways, it's not like Hasbro or IDW being in this to make make money is a revelation. I don't do what I do because I really care about the people I may help. I do it to line my pocket, make sure my kid goes to a good school and keep my family moving forward.

Consumerism the very thing that gives is Transformers, is all about manipulating everyone to make a buck. Hasbro wanted me to want an optimus prime toy until I died. It worked! Worked on you, too. Plenty of decent, smart people as well.

We're born and then immediately start to die. Everything else is a distraction. Let people get excited and buy into their chubby Jem comics before they drop dead and decay, man. Deep in their hearts they know what it is, and they don't care. :p

Oh, don't get me wrong, I like the idea that our comics are more reflective of the real world. I like seeing women in comics that are all shapes and sizes. I just don't like the reasoning behind some of this stuff. That's my only bone of contention.

I'm not saying consumerism is a bad thing (maybe a tad unhealthy), but I do think it's ironic that a company is trying to promote inclusive and progressive ideals while simultaneously looking for countries that have horrible laws that allow for terrible working conditions that negatively impact young women... do you not see the irony?

    lmao. Good pull with Finback.

Fair enough. Doubt you'll see a legit reason outside of some weird transformers obsessed artists colony, but hey. Wishes are free. :p

I would concur when it comes to the majority of IDW and Dreamwave TF comics, but not when it comes to James Roberts' material. Last Stand of the Wreckers was fun. MTMTE was clever and engaging, and most importantly kept me hooked.
