The weapons, the gritty look and the appearance that they're being chased by the autobots are all good signs that these guys are Cons.

Go with your gut. If you're a kid and you see a toy that looked like these guys, wouldn't you assume it was a bad guy?

I'm torn about whether or not I want them to be Stunticons though. Those guys would be the best choice for making the Autobots look bad but it wouldn't seem right without Motormaster and Drag Strip. Although it's possible, judging by the wreckage, that they were already dispatched. Hmmm come to think of it, where's Ironhide in that chase?

Since they're a trio, could they possibly be the Insecticons? They're the only Decepticon trio I can think of aside from Reflector (please no more Hive mind bots).

The Lockdown conjecture is actually very possible but I doubt it.

They are probably the Constructicons of this movie. Their toys have names but the movie characters act as drones and serve as the cannon fodder for the scene.

now if u look at this pic of red the nascar car there doesnt seem to be any wings, but on some images it looks like jets on the back of the car

the link also mentioned that they can do "dimension-hopping." maybe that can be part of the story or something.

 

People on set (including my source whom i trust) saw some guys painting DECEPTICON logos on those vehicles!!

the omni bot source seems like ehh could work but again i doubht thats what they are.

 

Starscream, Thundercracker, and Skywarp where shown as a trio quite a bit. Animated had Blitzwing as a one bot trio. Examples in just about any of the series of Decepticons or Predicons working in a team of three.

Part of it could be that Three Stooges thing since they influenced a lot of writers over the years. Part of it could be the ancient Romans often serve as a Decepticon template so there could the influence of the ruling triumvirate. Or it could just be a trio is a handy size for a writer and a handy size for Hasbro.

 

I betting on Decepticon.

One of the G1 names has obviously been used, now the other 3 come to avenge their commrade's destruction.

They have to be Decepticons because it is already lopsided (9 'bots - 3 'cons) even if they were.
3 bots technically werent seen chasing ('hide and the twins).


It also should be interesting seeing Jimmy, Dale Jr, and Juan Pablo as holo-drivers.

I was thinking, if we do get the Stunticons in TF3 and if still they combine into Menasor, does anyone else agree that they would have to expand on the number of them? I was thinking about the mechanics of it, and there being only five never made sense to me.

I was thinking what if there were 11 with two forming each apendage with Motormaster remaining a semi still forming the torso with one that turns into either a pick-up truck or large SUV becoming the head.

 

The movies don't like robots that are too large so they might have a smaller version of Menasor from 6 cars. Maybe there will be 6 nascars total and we just have not yet seen the other 3 Nascars. The Director likes to save money for huge profits and the animation for 6 similar Nascars will be much easier to do on the computer. TF2 saved lots of money from using clone robots again and gain.

 

What about the NASCARicons??
