Recently, it was the first time i've heard that Transformers comics get nominated for an award. All thanks to More Than Meets The Eye saga. So the saga must be that great. I wish I had all the issues. I usually hear a lot about DC and Marvel superhero comics. Of course heroes like Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, X-Men, Wolverine and Spider-Man are great. Now a non DC/ Marvel superhero comic nominated for an award. Has Transformers comics from Marvel and Dreamwave ever been nominated or even win an award?
I've never heard of that. Anybody can make their own award, so unless it has some kind of backing or official standing, like the Eisners or the Harveys, they might not really mean much. And honestly, even the Harveys don't mean much thanks to the way they are run. Looking it up online, I see the True Believers Comic Awards are in conjunction with a London convention, which is good, but this is their first year doing it.
That makes no sense to me. What possible purpose is there in replacing such a long-standing and respected award as the Eagles? That is completely baffling. edit: but wait a minute. The article says they are replacing the "Stan Lee Eagle Award". WTF is that? The Eagle Awards were named after the IPC Eagle comic, not after Stan freaking Lee. Is that a different Eagle Award?
No. Stan Lee stepped in to sponsor the Eagle awards after the whole shebang fell by the wayside a bit. It's simply been renamed the True Believer awards.
So weird to see a British institution named for a British icon renamed for an American icon. Seems a shame, somehow.
