Some companies have products that routinely get KOed. Others do not.

Has DX9/Unique Toys ever complained in public over being KOed? Have they ever asked buyers not to purchase KOs of their products?

Does anyone think that DX9/Unique Toys might actually have a business relationship with those that KO their products? For instance would it be out of the realm for them to license/sell their designs after they finish their initial run?

    Just wondering aloud.

This thread has the potential to start a flame war. Just be aware third party isn’t licensed. So whether they complain or not, they kinda shouldn’t but then they have the right to for the designs. It’s a double edged sword.

Ironically, the loudest I've seen a 3p complain about theft was MFT about PapaToys' Rodimus.

It's usually some subcontractor they use that sell off the CAD. This can be anyone from the prototyping company to the mold-maker. You can tell if a design is available to buy if there are multiple KOs from several companies in a short time, like the Hulkies and Gravity Builders.

This is not always case since KO companies can always reverse engineer a toy. The same measuring instruments used to QC steel molds can be used for reverse engineering, so technically anyone with a manufacturing facility can do it, it just takes a longer time.

If it starts to go south, feel free to lock the thread. I'm not trying to start a flame war of any sort, I'm just trying to take a peek behind the 3rd party curtain.

That's an interesting idea. Any insights to support it... for example: similar box design elements?

XT was pretty miffed about someone stealing their Breakdown mold and KO'ing it into a Sideswipe or some nonsense like that. Then again, they just lowered the price on theirs and destroyed the KO that way.

I don't think they complained publicly but apparently they changed factories and then dx9 Powerglide and UT Peru Kill got KO'd.

I'm not trying to troll. I want to know does a 3p company have a right to complain or possible legal action for KO's of their product even though they are infringing on a interlectual property without a license?

I'm not a legal expert on Chinese copyright laws. I know it is one of reasons Hasbro and Takara haven't done anything either.

The only ones I remember was when Keith got his breakdown stole. and then destroyed the KO.

Also, the most ironic scenario in the world when MFT complained about PT stole their Hot Rod.

Doesn't seem very likely for the very reasons you mentioned. It'll possibly eliminate one problem and invite another.

Really? I remembered most loudly one is FT complained about C9 (or GP) stealing its design on Shockwave and Dinobots.

But do some companies just sell their designs to others after they are done with it? So that they are not really KOs at all. DX9/Unique Toys get KOed very quickly after a release.

And if KO folks go after whatever makes money, why are there not KOs of Fantoys or MMC stuff? If people can reverse engineer stuff, wouldn’t more companies be targets? Generation Toy’s Gravity Builder got KOed like crazy, but not Toyworld’s Devastator, which is, by all accounts, more popular. Warbotron also got KOed several times.

They did with Shockwave because it was apparently the same designer, but not with their Dinobots. First I've heard of that one.
