:D  thank you. Really, ROTF has the larger advantage. Think about it. Kids want to see it, so their moms will take them. Dads want to see it as well, and might see it before they let their kids go see it, just to see if it's appropriate. Then fathers usually take their sons to go see it. I've seen alot of families to go see it. Older women tend to like Shia or Josh Duhamel. Men seem to like Megan and Isabel Lucas. Kids like the funny and evil robots and the action. You've got something for every age group. Plus, who doesn't love robots and explosions?
With Harry Potter, you've got alot of kids, but not quite as many adults. Plus you have your uber conservative religious folk who believe HP is blasphemous and so-on, so that'll hurt its box office take. Some moms even refused to take their kids to see it because Daniel Radcliffe was naked in Equus. That, and the new Harry Potter movies are getting pretty scary for little kids, so that'll hurt it as well.
So basically, ROTF takes the cake.

Impressive. You have pinpointed some key issues. I never thought of all that.

I am concerned as much as I am about Monkeys taking over the world.

Honestly why would anyone want to care?

The only threat to ROTF would have been the new Harry Potter, but when that movie was put in place by a film about talking hamsters, I don't think anything will beat ROTF. District-9, I think will be a surprise hit movie and get suprisingly high number, but not like TF2. I actually more excited about District-9 then GI Joe. I'll go see District-9 in theaters, but GI Joe, I'll wait and rent it. It's looking to cheesey with the 'Super-Suits" and the comic releif but whoever playing Ripcord. Sorry but I can't remember his name.

    Marlon Wayans plays Ripcord.

As for District-9, it looks to be an excellent film. Not just giant robots and aliens, but the story.

If it gave ROTF a run for it's money, came neck and neck with it, or even beat it, I'd have no problem.

As for District 9, I think it will be G.I. Joe vs District 9. Not ROTF vs District 9. I think District 9 will win.

In related news, 'The Hangover' beat Transformers, which dropped to #10 on the box office, eh, guess the drop had to happen sooner or later.

Potter was a major disappointment. Twice.

Reading it, and then watching it.....

let's sit back a minute and look at the big picture: as it stands, as a franchise bay's transformers has made over 1.52 billion so far with two movies, an average of 756 million each. the harry potter franchise, on the other hand, has made 1.67 billion so far with six movies, with an average of 278 million each.
just sit back and take that in.

    mind=blown

You're only counting HP's domestic take, but using TF's worldwide take. HP's average worldwide take is 872.3 mil.

As Ephland has pointed out, if you're going to compare the two like this, use either both movie's Domestic numbers, or use both movies Worldwide numbers, instead of comparing one's Domestic numbers to the others Worldwide numbers.

    Let's do some math:

    HP1 $968,657,891
    HP2 $866,300,000
    HP3 $789,458,727
    HP4 $892,194,397
    HP5 $937,000,866
    HP6 $750,490,624

    Total: $5,204,102,505
    Average: $867,350,417.5

    TF1 $700,759,914
    TF2 $810,858,383

    Total: $1,511,618,297
    Average: $755,809,148.5

    Difference:
    Total- $3,692,484,208
    Average- $111,541,269

    My source:

    All-Time Worldwide Box Office

Yeah, IMDB, not the best source for, well, anything, but at the very least this part of their website is correct.

The box office says different. And that's gotta sting, don't it? All the people bleating on about how ROTF must be awesome because it's made SO MUCH MONEY, and it turns out the Harry Potter films make more. Weep, fanboys, weep. Your anguish sustains me.

If someone is going to try and compare the two movie franchises by how much they've made, HP needs no additional defending. Also, what's wrong with defending something you're a fan of? Fandomes, including our TF fandome, do it all the time.

Pure opinion, please stop throwing it around like a fact. Personally, I prefer HP to TF, it's my opinion, and nothing more than that.

All that I can say is:

TF and ROTF managed to make enough money in 2 films. Compare that with Harry Potter which had to make over 6 films to get this far..
