Not really. Hasbro isn't in active litigation with any third parties at this time. Even if they did go after them, the case would be decided on its own merits.

I think this is all based on the fact that Harmony Gold is claiming they own the G1 Jetfire box art which appeared on the back of the SDCC toy, as it's based on the Valkyrie/Veritech toy. Honestly they are right.

This is ridiculously stupid. The demands are insane, and this whole thing is almost as ludicrous as the guy suing Apple over causing his porn addiction and divorce. He has mental problems, apparently, so maybe Harmony Gold do, too.

Am I the only one that is sick to death of stupid-ass lawsuits?

Whatever designer thought that was a good idea is an idiot. That art was just asking for trouble.

I don't agree with how HG treats Macross in the us, and some of it is overreaching. This lawsuit, though, doesn't actually seem very frivolous based on the evidence. They're well within legal boundaries here. Hasbro stepped too close. Not only do they use a similar plane design with macross colors and fastpack, but they use straight up macross art. Too far, really.

I don't think Macross ever used the Jetfire colors. I bet Hasbro ends up putting a sticker over the G1 tech spec art.

I didn't think so, but someone in the thread said they did. Even if not, that art in particular is clearly over the line.

That is not on the back of the SDCC box. I haven't opened it yet so maybe it's inside, but there is no G1 art anywhere on the actual box. I find it very hard to believe Hasbro's legal team would allow the use of an actual picture of a friggin' battloid for absolutely anything TF related.

Harmony Gold has no case here. They don't own the likeness rights to the F-14 and they don't own the colors red and white. Surprised anyone is even suggesting this is anything but the usual HG frivolity.

No. Hasbro lost all tights to use the Valkyrie image after '86. HG is totally correct in its suit.

I checked Skyfire's page on the TFWiki, & it mentions the UN Spacy logos from Robotech/ Macross was still on the wings of some releases (probably initial waves, phased out later), so they had to use some of the same paint apps.

Regardless, it's still artwork that was approved 30 years ago. Harmony Gold can't really "grandfather clause" this in. If it was new artwork that looked like that, then okay. But it's the same artwork from the old G1 boxart.

It is art based on IP Hasbro des not license any more and Hasbro cannot continue to make money on it. Hasbro is the one who cannot "grandfather" it in.

    1) They're suing over the booster pack (though Classics Jetfire had a booster pack)
    2) It's stupid because the Skystriker is maybe just a little close to the Veritech plane (using the Robotech terms) and the Skystriker has never had any ability to become anything other than a jet
    3) If Harmony Gold really wanted a fight, why now? Why not over the Classics Jetfire? Or Generations Whirl's Gerwalk mode? The answer is that they're just grasping (maybe they have some sort of Robotech revival planned after the Shadow Chronicles follow up that they didn't mention yet. As in a mass release of the VF 1A type fighters with the ability to fully transform, not just have a Gerwalk mode like the old Matchbox vehicles)

I'm going to start a video response to this on my YouTube channel.

Y'all are free to share your opinion, and I'm definitely not a fan of HG's shenanigans.

Their legal cockblockings have made nothing but enemies, and they've also done JACK SHIT with their Robotech franchise.

Its not the booster packs, its the unlicensed image of a Valkyrie Battloid on the bio card!
