Happy new year to all my fellow Chinese members! :D

It's spelled differently from dialect to dialect - I believe you've nailed the Cantonese spelling.

ah-hem.... it's not just Asian people that celebrate Chinese/Lunar New Year. Just like it's not only White people that celebrate Christmas. Race and culture are not in any way the same thing. However I do understand well how most people in Asia and in the Western world haven't yet wrapped their heads around how a non-Asian person can become sinocised, unlike the readily accepted concept that an Asian person can become Americanized/Canadianized.

Happy New Year to everyone too! (which I'm currently celebrating)

I have plenty of red envelopes to send to you. Too bad I can't afford to fill them. Actually now that I think about it only married folks are supposed to give them out. Where's mine foo? :p

What is this? cultural carpet bagging? :D  Just kidding, good point I meant no offense. I didn't realize other folks celebrated as well. Welcome aboard.

Just to be a total nerd, here's some interesting reading on Christmas. The Man Who Invented Christmas

Well, it's a Lunar calendar, so it always changes. But I agree, it's unusually early. Anyways, Happy New Year my Chinese brothers!
