I enjoy the color of blue that's associated with Hanukkah, in fact I think I prefer it to the reds and greens of Christmas.
As to what Chanukah is? Jewish holiday. Lasts 7 days. Candles. Menorah. Dreidels. Chocolate Money. Also spelled Hanukkah.
i wouldn't mind following the holiday one year, just as a cultural experience. (back in high school, i did the Catholic thing with a classmate to see if it was really all that different.) Heck, i have been celebrating Boxing Day each year for the past 10, 12 years, so what's one more holiday in December?
I'm Christian and don't celebrate it. But that won't stop me from wishing everyone that does celebrate a Happy Chanukah! I hope it's great for everyone!
My dad's Jewish, my mom grew up Christian. We celebrate both. Some families give gifts for all eight nights, some just give one set of gifts like Christmas. The holiday celebrates the successful Jewish revolt lead by Judas Maccabeus against the Seleucid Greek Empire. The revolt kicked off after the Seleucid King Antiochus IV tried to forcibly convert the Jews to Greek paganism (Antiochus IV had a bit of a god complex, some historical reports indicate he might have thought he was Zeus).
That was one doozy of a typo I made. "LAST NIGHT OF CHANUKAH IS CANCELLED, KIDS! SOME DUDE ON THE INTERNET SAID SO!"
