Someone posted this on other board I frequent, and it was honestly one of the most beautiful yet saddest things I've probably ever read. Not mine obviously, but having to put my dog that I had never lived without down a year ago, this one hit close to home.

You're gonna at least get teary eyed, fair warning.

This Dog's Final Day Proves We Should Live Every Day Like It's Our Last

Beautiful. Absolutely beautiful. Makes me all the more sad to think of when my buddy finally says goodbye, and hopes that it has nothing to do with any type of tortuous disease nor medical issue; He hopefully just sleeps away one day.

Didn't cry nor get teary eyed though, as I've been desensitized to stuff like this for a long time.

Goddammit I'm blubbering like a baby.

This story really, really shows what it means to be a pet owner. It's not what the dog (or cat or mouse or turtle or whatever) does for you, it's what you can do for them. Every time we have to put a pet down it gets worse and worse. They've never just go peacefully, sadly. We've recently adopted and old Pitbull mix girl that nobody wanted because she was old. Eleven. She had an absolutely shit life of being bred nonstop and left outside for two years straight. So we figured the least we could do was give her a loving home for her final years, even though it's going to kill us when it comes time for her.

That family was amazing for doing what they did for Duke. All pet owners should look up to them.

Putting down our cat, Kimahri, remains one of saddest days I'll ever experience. He was only four years old but had an aggressive lymphoblastic lymphoma. We tried our hardest to get him treatment (racked up one helluva medical bill) but the bastard cancer won in the end.

    I fricken hate cancer.

So when your best friend just dies you get a new one and don't care?

Someone is either heartless or has never owned a dog. I'm usually in agreement with ya seali but I'll tear ya apart on this one if you go down that road.

Here's Maya. She died the same way.

I cried when we had to put her down. I think it was because she KNEW what was going to happen to her that day.

Can't cry again just because I just saw another dog go through the same thing.

Miss her but I guess not as much as you peeps.

We got another. I had to pay for it this time around. Cost me 300$. No I didn't cry about the money.

Not sure man. A dog's a dog. You eventually replace them.

A dog isn't just a dog though. I mean I literally had one of my dogs from birth. I never knew what life was like without her. That's some rough shit. Dogs aren't just things that are replaced, they're part of the family. You raise them, bond with them, they're always there, and then when they're not that shit's awful.

Your first? That may just be it. I had so many already.

I just lost my last one during the move.

    Here's Prinny.

I feel bad cause I was the one on watch that day. She got out without noticing while I was moving stuff .

When the wife feels a little better, I'll get her another one.

Wasn't the first I put down. Was my fourth in that regard. I mean I don't grieve every day about them, but I still miss them, I still get sad when I think about them. And that story was really touching to me I guess strictly because I never got that final day with one of my dogs. All of them went to vet and were put down then, always coming as a surprise. Only exception was the one I mentioned earlier. Since she wasn't in pain I ended up taking her home and holding her all night. Fell asleep like that, she was gone in my arms when I woke up in the morning.

Ugh fuck pets they're the worst.
