F2P Multiplayer and 120 mode on Console goes a long way to explaining why they aren't pushing the boat out too far on Graphics, but it still needs a much higher celling then what we saw in the trailer for PC in general and SX guys that don't have high refresh rate displays and/or would rather prioritise graphics at 60 then performance at 120.
Microsoft delays Halo Infinite to 2021 A good choice, you can't fix a game in under a year. Also no crunch time!
That’s definitely a wise move for the game itself. If all they had ready to show was that demo only a few months before launch (which if reports are to be believed was an early build running on a PC and not a Series X), then they need to take time to polish things up. Also, I’m fairly certain COVID has definitely disrupted this game’s development. I believe they were targeting that November date even before COVID, and COVID meant they had to change their entire workplace structure and they couldn’t get as many actors for motion capture/voice acting scenes than they ordinarily would. However, the downside is that Microsoft was really counting on this game to sell consoles at Christmas time. They have officially ceded ground to PlayStation at least at launch. I thought Spider-Man vs Halo would be an interesting launch comparison. Spider-Man PS4 was the best superhero game ever in my opinion, but will a shorter spin-off game be able to sell more consoles at launch than a full fledged Halo game? Ultimately though, this is probably a good sign for Microsoft’s faith in the game. This was probably one of the hardest game delay decisions they have ever had to make, so I wouldn’t have blamed them for rushing it out to market as a launch title. Clearly, they think that more development time is worth potential Q4 losses. First day Series X buyers are just going to have to make do with multiplatform/cross generation games this November and December. If one of those games is Cyberpunk though, you’re probably set until Halo releases anyway. Although this is still really funny:
It's possible they can use game pass as their main selling point. Alot of the greatest consoles may have shitty or no launch games.
A lot of people are saying that the selling point will be Game Pass, and that they aren’t concerned with the console’s success. While Game Pass sounds like a really great idea, I highly doubt Xbox wants to continue selling consoles at a loss. These consoles aren’t cheap to develop and mass produce.
Lockheart/Series S is the wildcard here, if that ships at 300 then they will probably start converting the part of their user base that doesn't care about 4K strait away and can probably get away with immediatly discontinuing XB1 in the unlikely even it goes lower then that.
With the the delay of their flagship title I can see phil going on a spending spree for studios or ips
Buying more studios isn't going to get them more AAA games between now and Halo Infinite coming out, that sort of investment takes years to pay off and we probably won't even see the full benefits of the 2018 spending spree until around 2022. People forget that it took Sony a decade to build the first party juggernaut that they have now and that probably wouldn't have happened if the PS3 hadn't been such a train wreck for the first few years. Plus there isn't much left to buy in the AAA and upper AA segments at this point, everybody that isn't owned by a major publisher or media company is either already being bankrolled by one or isn't interested in selling.
Your right buying more studios now wont gives us A new AAA game between now and when Halo Infinite comes out, but what buying more studios do for Xbox is get them one step closer to being the Netflix of gaming which is Gamepass.
I'm sure most of you have already seen it, but here's a render of some multiplayer armor. It has something called an armor coating, which sounds like a shader. Hopefully we'll still be able to pick individual colors for our Spartan.
Something even crazier I thought about. What if, since the banished are the primary enemy, we played as the brutes in multiplayer. It probly wouldn't work lore wise and the fact that they're very powerful, even more than a Spartan. It was just a thought I had, it would be such a cool thing. You could be the different ranks and stuff. Imagine being able to play a brute chieftain, that'd be something.
If they do make a return, that'd be cool. But I don't think the prometheans are coming back. This game feels like 343 is trying to correct all their mistakes, and the prometheans are probably one of those mistakes. But if they are here, that'd definitely be something to have fun with.
Ok I went ahead and watched a video on it, and nevermind the last post. I'd love to play as a promethean soldier. I hope they make the weapon selection better, as the promethean weapons we've gotten in the last two games were way too similar to the UNSC weapons. They weren't creative or different at all, so I do hope they change that.
