Half-Life: Alyx: What we know about Valve’s upcoming full-length VR game Valve’s Half-Life series continues with Half-Life: Alyx for VR Game is set to be shown off/fully revealed this Thursday I believe.
I knew there was a VR game in development! People have been mining the files and knew about this for a few years now. And now theres no doubting it! Half-Life(not 3) really is here!
I have serious doubts about this. I've been chasing rumors of a possible VR game for awhile now, and the idea of it being a 'prequel' left it vague enough to be anything. Alyx is a great character, and a game taking place in her past can definitely work, but the big issue here is that from what I know most of the people who made the Half Life series what it was no longer work at Valve. Does this mean they've come back or will they just hand this off to some new team? Really not sure how to feel about this. I want to be excited, I don't even mind that it's a VR game, another thing is why even bother with this since the chances of Half Life 3 ever happening are slim to none? The really cynical side of me thinks this was a calculated move on their end to ensure as many sales as possible due to how hungry the Half Life fandom is for anything new. Furthermore even if they somehow managed to get the 'band back together', do they still have what it takes? It's been a long ass time from the last entry.
'Half-Life: Alyx' is a VR prequel set before the events of 'Half-Life 2 Alyx will take place between the events of Half-Life and Half-Life 2. For those of us who've been waiting for Valve to return to these games, it's a bit of a bittersweet moment -- the company undoubtedly knows how to make an excellent game, and the screenshots Valve shared certainly should get fans excited. But if you're looking for closure after the mega-cliffhanger that was Episode Two, you'll have to keep waiting. Enough about what Alyx isn't, though. The game is set for release on Steam in March of 2020, just four short months from now, and will work with all PC-compatible VR headsets. Pre-orders are open now and the game costs $59.99, though owners of Valve's Index VR headset will get it for free.
HOLY SHIT A NEW HALF-LIFE GAME- *Sees it's a VR game set between Half-Life 1 and 2* God dammit, Valve. They STILL can't count to three, can they?
This was pretty much my reaction. Just imagine if they had done a surprise announcement at a convention like Diablo. Crowd reaction would have been like “YAAAAAYYYYY....wait, what?”
How did they manage to keep this a secret because I’m genuinely surprised? One thing is for sure, I think this is going to sell a lot of VR units.
Probably because no-one is actually looking to Valve to actually release something of their own anymore.
People have been datamining(can remember what game)Valve’s updates for years and items with the name “halflifevrgame” have been among them. So we’ve known something was coming since about 2016 iirc, so about 3 years. Nobody just ever believed us. I think I ever tried to make a thread about it once.
The ending was leaked out for this ahead of release. (Day of release I believe instead) Interesting stuff.
Basically (MASSIVE SPOILERGGEDON): Spoiler: Seriously, it's a massive one. Not only it takes place between the first and second game, the later part takes place after Half Life 2 Episode 2. Yep, fans finally get their answer. You even get to very briefly play as Gordon.
Preparing my PC to play this. My PC is up to spec but I don’t have any USB C ports just A. Got a 3.1 gen 2 C pcie card. I have an 3rd party oculus link cable pre ordered and an oculus quest.
